Playing around with photoshop trying to make an inlay for my CD that I am currently recording.
Comments appreciated please. Thank you.

I like what you have done with this photo! What I see is a photo that is very symectrical left and right - and the tree on the right side is not completely balanced on the left - but it does go with the flow of (your?) his head! It may contrast to much if one was on the other side curving in towards the center anyway?? It appears that I can see heavy burning towards the corners in the clouds and a little in the grass? It may be the lens - not that it is wrong it just looks a little spotty and distracts from the focal point! Great Job!

Generally, it's a nice editing. I love the background photo very much and I have always loved selective desat.
A few things that bothered me though:
If the guy in the foreground is the color part of the world, against the dramatic b&w background, then I would expect that little part of his hand that is seen to be colored as well.

I am not too fond of the guy's expression. He looks miserable.

And the last thing about it as a whole... well, as much as I like the background image, the main consept was seen before. There's nothing new about it. Too ordinary CD inlay IMO...
Based on your portfolio photos, I think you can come up with something more extraordinary then this.
I guess that's not really a helpful critics, but that's just my personal feeling. Not meant to offend in any way!

no offense taken at all.. even though the misserable guy is ME...LMAO. but I am quite moody anyway so that is fine.. yes i thought about the bit of the hand but when i coloured it it didnt look right so i left it out.. this is 1 photograph and not 2 seperate ones I was standing by a temple and shot it with a 10.5 fisheye. The album im making is quite moody too. Thanx for takingthe time to comment.

I think it's really sharp. all i'd say is colourize the part of your hand that shows.

I enjoyed the photo. The only thing I was unsure of....mind you I use a laptop so it may only be me...it appears that the gentleman's eyes are processed (right word?) which isn't a problem for me...but it appears that the tool to process it may have been too round because it looks like the eyes and part of beanie(hat) are colored as well.

Love the expression and general photo. But don't like the desat. I'd stick with all black/white personally.

stupid question: Shouldn't this be a different aspect ratio to go on a CD ? or else you planning to merge it with other background / text ...

Presuming the mood and setting of the image gybe well witht he content of the CD, I think this is very well done. Definitely color the hand. You can always tone it down relative to the face, but leave some color in it.

The photo looks great! I agree with the part of the hand being in color.
The one question I have since this is going to be for the CD is, have you thought about size considerations for a CD? Looks like you would be folding this right at your nose and then, that folded, would no longer be square.

Just a thought!

Thanks everyone for the interesting comments. About the hand- I think it will be cropped out rather than coloured because i tried it and it looked really out of place so i think crop it out is better. it is not going to be on the front cover it is just an inlay for the info about myself and my writing for the past 25 years so the shape is fine but well spotted.

The eyes were cut out seperate to the face and hat and i just changed the colour from brown to blue (something to do with 1 of the songs on the CD) I think everything should be relative and I agree about that hand too, I will have to try crop it out.

Thank you again for taking the time to comment.
