Help! This camera is fairly new to me, and I am just using automatic functions for the moment. However, a problem has arisen that I don't understand. When taking photos with a flash, I sometimes get a message on the screen that says "Speedlight is in closed position" and the camera then takes a photo without a flash. This can be after I have taken one or two photos with the flash a few seconds before in the same environment. The Speedlight remains open, so it's not that that is closed, and it's always in an environment that needs a flash as the resulting shots are always black. What is going wrong?

I don't ever use the flash on my Coolpix, but my guess would be that you need to wait a few seconds for it to recharge.

Yes, the speedlight is charging. The same message serves dual purposes here.

Thanks, but this doesn't seem to be the case, as the camera would have been on for a good few seconds beforehand, and once the problem "clears" (I find if I alter the type of flash it clears it) it then takes photos with a flash without any problem. It's not that I have my finger on the flash cover either. Could it be a fault with the hardware?
