Thats pretty cool. Looks like something I would paint... I like the idea though. Maybe I can give something like that a try...

Thanks...

I really like your first picture. And while I'm not really qualified to "improve" on it, I did have an idea that I wanted to try out.

I was noticing how there is a strong light at the bottom of the photo. So I wanted to try to give that light a "source". Here's a before and after:

Before: After:

I did the following 3 steps:

1) I used PhotoShop's Lighting Effects filter to create a spot light (having first sampled the color of the light at the brightest part of your picture). I pointed the spot light down towards the light in your picture and narrowed it just enough so that it would highlight the flowers on the sides while still looking like a spot light from above.

2) Then I used the Fade Filter option under adjustments and faded it to about 70%. I also set the layer style to Hard Light (if I remember correctly).

3) Then I used a small amount of USM (.4 at 80%) to bring out some more detail in the picture.

That's it.

Due to using the hard light layer style and the USM, it's a little harsher than yours (I kinda liked the softness of your picture). Still, I thought I'd put it up for you to take a look.

Thanks for the ideas. I will see what I can do with them when I get some time...

I'm not crazy about the first shot in general, but I like the second one before anything was done to it. Were those from the Philadelphia flower show? I noticed you're from PA.

I missed this thread before . . .I LOVE YOUR WORK if this is any example. I am going to go check out the rest of your portfolio right now.

Yea. I went there on Saturday with my fiance. I really wanted to take a lot of photos but it was so crazy in there I really couldn't get any time to set up for decent shots. The stuff they do though is pretty amazing...

Thanks a bunch. I've been trying and I think I am getting better as I go. If you are going in the portfolio most of my images are in the sub folder... Thanks again...

I went on Sunday, and it was crazy then too. I loved the lemons display. I was trying to take a lot of shots without a flash, and everyone with disposable cameras kept getting in my way setting off their cameras as I was taking long exposures. It was quite frustrating. I'm glad I went though. I got one shot that I like thats in my profile, and that was luck since the other 40 I took came out like crap, and by crap I mean absolute crap. This one was all luck. I also went with a lot of black and white shots because some of the flowers were wilted from being out too long and I didn't want the dying look in the photo. Next year I plan on going on the first weekend when everything is fresh.

Also, had either of us gone on the first weekend, we could have gotten some nice surreal shots. How funny was the paint palette and the carnation soup cans?

That photo came out really good... Yea. I think if I do attempt to go next year I am going to go during the week like Monday or Tuesday so the flowers are fresh and so the crowd will be less...

Most of my flowers came out blurry cause I was trying to not use a flash as well and it wasn't all that bright in there. A tripod and time would have been great...

The lemon display was really cool. Its great they did that for her. I really like the Bansi(?) Trees as well.

Did you see the photos they had on display there? They were great.

Yes, as a matter of fact, my girlfriend and I looked at all the photos and voted on them between ourselves as if it was a DP Challenge. Most were a 10. I did like the bonsai trees display and I took a lot of shots of them too, but the lighting for that section was terrible. I couldn't really get a good shot. Thanks also for the compliment on the photo.
