I just uploaded my first submission into this site and I have a feeling that people may think that it deserves disqualification. (Which I assure you it does not) Do people then really vote as if it was legit, or are people's votes lower just because of the bad taste in their mouth?

People are what they are ... but you should not be proactively upset or defensive .. otherwise .. you should not submit that one !
Welcome anyway

Only time will tell. There will almost always be something to critisize. Like spelling?

People will give low votes if they don't think it fits the challenge or if they think it broke the rules. Photos aren't being DQ for not fitting the challenge so a low score is the only way to penalize for it. Unfortunately, there are about as many sets of voting criteria as there are voters and even the winning shots get a few 1 votes. IMO, it's up to you if you want to submit something that may be questioned but don't be surprised when you get the low votes and comments.

I hope that you are not doing anything with that zucchini in that photograph? What could you possibly be doing with fruit or vegetables to say that? No you'll get people that will give you a 1 or a 2 just for spite, maybe because they had a bad childhood experience or had a pencil shoved up their nose. It just human nature, some people need attention and others have never got any.

Thanks for all the feedback, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. And No, it has nothing to do with a zucchini.

If your subjects are looking into the camera, to me it's not candid. It is a good shot, however.

That was the feedback on my photo.

Gee, thanks for the wonderful, helpful comments.

Argggh!

Next challenge I'm going to take a crappy photo of a carrot and an apple. I'll probably get a ten.

Speaking of comments, this one rather baffled me:
not at all my idea of what a candid shot should be----10

I personally would vote it down due to a bad taste in my mouth, considering it was NOT the point of a challenge. Topic worthiness is a tough point though. I actually just submitted my first photo this challenge (f&v) but I have voted a couple of times. I really disliked a few of the shots in the "Carefree" topic of gravestones or anything that reminded me of death, abuse (the belts), or old people. Its a voter to voter thing though.
Good Luck!! BB

Now there is just twelve hours and ten minutes before we all know how well (or badly)candid doggy pictures performed!

Hello all. I've posted my first submission for the fruit n veggie challenge. I don't think I'm quite up to the standard of most of you but I'm looking forward to a bit of constructive criticism. Everybody seems quite pleasant here so that's cool!

Good luck all! :o)

I'm new here. So far I've found the comments on my submissions to be thoughtful, helpful, and respectful. Thank you.

I assume that the moderators know what they're doing when they allow a picture to stay, and vote on that assumption. If anything, it makes me spend a little more time on that photo and look a little closer at it than I usually do.
