i tried the 350D today... even for my small asian hand, my lil pinky finger only is a support for the base of the body.

Picture is of a friend using it with a 70-200 IS

I think it's too small.

Unfortunately, I think Canon is continuing the miniaturization trend now not for consumer benefit, but instead, simply for the decreased cost of the materials involved. Looks like the the 350XT has crossed that point but the 20d is still tolerable. I just recently upgraded the to the 20d and LOVE it. The decreased size/weight of the body isn't a negative to me on it especially with heavy glass (24-70/2.8L or 70-200/2.8L) but I'm definitely considering the battery grip because I like to use a hand strap and have the extra size to hold onto. My wife also loves the decreased weight but would never buy the camera for its other merits

I have both the Battery Grip and the hand strap. I don't even use the neck strap. These two seem a great combination, especially when climbing around trying to get that "perfect" position.

The merge between DSLR and P&S continues.... :p

Having used the 10D and grip combo for awhile I thought that the 20D without grip would feel much too small. I actually quite liked the feeling, however, especially with my 16-35 mounted on it. Very lightweight and fast. I did purchase the grip to use with my bigger lenses...it's better balanced that way.

The size of the 350XT is an interesting look into Canon's development. A G7 is only slightly smaller.

better preorder your 350D with batt grip, or you'll just have to wait in a long long que later :)

I cant believe so many people think the current dslrs are small!

I havent tried the 350XT yet but i used my aunts 20D for a few days and i thought it was huge! I use a G5 now and i think even thats huge... I guess its just an example of the generation gap, but for me anything that doesnt fit in my pockets is on the big side of the scale.

According to published reviews, the 350D is only about a half-inch smaller and 3 ounces lighter than the 300D. Sheesh. You guys make it sound so terrible. Why start such an uproar?

well it is big if you use it with a 50mm 1.8, but with a 70-200 IS lens, that cost way more than the 350D you better make sure you have a good grip!!!

This thread may have convinced me to buy a 350Xt.

My current camera is the Sony F717, the body is small and uncomfortable to hold, so the 350D will be a step up for me. I also want a camera that I can easily take everywhere. Skiing, mountainbiking, trecking etc, so if it is small and light, I see this as an advantage.

I had the 300D and I got the 20D now, but after just a few days with the 300D I realized that the camera was almost unusable with a big lens without the vertical grip, so now i never take it off.

300D, 350D, 10D and 20D are made for ladies but they make the verticalgrip so we men can use it too :)

1Ds has the grip built in because that camera is made for men with big hands ;)

I still fail to see what all the uproar is about when we are talking about such slight differences in size...according to //www.dpreview.com here are the dimensions for these Canon models:

20D - 5.7 x 4.2 x 2.8 in
10D - 5.9 x 4.2 x 3.0 in
300D - 5.6 x 3.9 x 2.8 in

and the 350D? It's a mere 15 x 5 x 8 MILLIMETERS smaller than the 300D.

Maybe someday you guys will finally understand the whole "size doesn't matter" thing. ;o)

But where's the fun if you can't get a decent grip on it?

Good point Konador!!
When is Canon going to make a white body to match its lenses??
The silver definitley doesn't cut it. I'm glad they make mainly Black. If it was silver I would problbly not be so keen to get one.

If anyone's disappointed with their 300 or 350, I'll be happy to take it off your hands :-)
