This Weekend I will be going on a fieldtrip to Austin and on this field trip I entered a contest where I have 3 hours and one roll of film to get a good photo! So I was wondering if anyone here knows of good photography places around the UT campus. Thanx for the help :)

Near UT? Well... everyone always tries to get pictures of the Tower. Those work alright, but they're sort of "done". The Drag (Guadalupe St) might have some amount of traffic, so you can look there for candids or interesting shots, especially at the Renaissance Market at 23rd street. There's also the turtle pond just north of the Tower.

Around campus... get a photo of UT Tower (remember the sniper guy), you can walk down to Texas capitol, and then further down to the river and get a few photos down there...

And I think that visitors to the capitol building are legally required to take at least one photo looking up into the rotunda. ;-) Those always come out really nice, so grab a few shots from different angles.

If the weather's nice and you happen to have enough time to make it out to the Oasis Restaurant on Lake Travis, there's no nicer place in Austin to take sunset pictures. Also, if you can hang around downtown until sunset, the Colonial Street Bridge bat migration is a pretty impressive sight. Have a nice trip!

Here's a list of some photo op spots in Austin as found on the Texas Photographer's Forum. I love the capitol building (not just the old part...the new part has some great things to photograph too!) and grounds. Have a great time and show us your pics when you get back! :o)

P.S. Good luck in the contest!

Some good opportunities for people pictures along the drag - plenty of personalities. Capitol complex is a few blocks away, and there is also the huge lone star outside of the Bob Bullock Center.

There aren't likely to be any bats out of the bridge at this time of year, though there will probably be quite a lot of rowers on Town Lake. Sixth Street, east of Congress can also be worth a walk along and the Frost Tower is a bit of weird architecture down around 4th and congress.

If you are shooting on Sunday, this weekend is the Zilker Kite festival, at Zilker Park - always colourful.

Good point about the bats, Gordon. I should have left the replies to the people who actually live in Austin. :-)

I don't know what kind of transportation you'll have, but there is also the Austin Botanical Gardens near Zilker Park and Mayfield Park west past Mopac on 35th street. Mayfield Park has peacocks. Near the Botanical Gardens is the Austin Nature Center which has some interesting animals to photograph.

UT has fountain on the southside with a good view of both the fountain and the tower and there is another fountain on the east side.

Don't forget the bridge on Loop 360, a photo of which came in 11th place in the Bridges challenge. You can climb up the hillside on the northwest side of it, stand by the feet at the south end, or walk along the grass on the southwest side.

Downtown - 6th Street it is the essence of Austin. Try half your roll during the day and half after 10:00 PM as it is 2 different worlds.
