Went out to a rather new local landmark to take my PaD shot for today. This is a 62 ft. tall sculpture of Jesus, which is right off the Interstate and is very visable from I-75, about 10 miles north of Cincinnati. It was finished just last Fall. Locals have affectionately named it the "touchdown" Jesus or the "Drowning" Jesus (because of the reflecting / baptismal pool in front of it.)

Some say it's tacky, some say inspirational. Got lucky with a dramatic orange moon rising over Jesus' shoulder just as I went out to take the shots.

The buildings you see around it are for a 3000 member church, so that should give you some idea of the scale. Here is the link to my PaD shot (which also has two extras of it there.) Handheld, as I forgot my tripod.

That is one awesome photo... I now fully understand why they would refer to it as the "Touchdown Jesus". Great capture.

I took the liberty of perusing your other photos......you madam are a very talented photographer.

I drive to Alabama from Canada twice a week and have been planning to stop and photograph this myself whenever the weather will co-operate. Very nice capture. The orange moon is a nice addition. Was this taken Thursday nite?

That is quite some drive!

This was taken Friday night (tonight) around 9pm.

I came through Thursday nite and it was an orange moon then. Had to make my regular stop at exit 29 for Tim Horton's coffee.

To get to the church, you would simply to past the Tim Hortons, Past Trader's World and just past those RR tracks is a road to your left. Turn left there and it takes you right to the church.

Just didn't know if you knew how to get there. :) About 5 minutes after my shots, the cloud cover came in and the moon was gone.

Can I get in there with a tractor-trailer? I was going to pull onto the shoulder at the end of the ramp to 75 north on my way home.

I would say you should be able to with no problem. They have a very large parking lot there. There is a small pathway that goes around the reflecting pool. The only problem I could see would possibly be turning into their drive, but I've seen large trucks take much smaller turns than that so I really don't think it would be a problem.

That is a stunning photo! Let me say first, the better a photo, the more likely I am to look at it and think about it. So, not detracting from the fact that it's already great, my initial thoughts.

Firstly, I'd actually say in this case I'd prefer it without the moon! Also, another thing I'm thinking about is the choping off of the hands in the reflection.

It might be interesting to reshoot this, and have someone in the foreground between the reflected arms. I was thinking maybe someone sitting down. I don't know. I just think it would add scale, and if they had the right mood, it could say something about helplessness, salvation or something like that. Would be tricky to get right, but certainly worth trying.

I agree with Ray. You have some phenomenal pictures in your gallery. I really like "Touchdown Jesus," but I would love to see this without the moon (though I like the moon in the shot). Also, if you could black out the steeple in photoshop, it might look a little better.

I don't know what the implications are of Jesus with a steeple in his head.

Great photo! I can now understand why it would be called "tacky". Maybe they should have consulted you for artistic impression before awarding the contract to whoever came up with that one. IMHO of course.

Well...It's not really ugly or anything. It's just a bit over the top for my tastes. It is definitely eyecatching and really has been inspirational to some.
