I was looking into buying the new Epson, but have heard mixed reviews about epson printers, and mostly good ones about this canon. What I would like to know is can this canon print straight 8x10 and 11x14 prints? Canon only sells 8 1/2 x 11, and 11x17 paper?? I didn't want to have to trim all my photos? Can I buy other manufacturers paper, and get the same quality I would with the canon paper? I would appreciate any input, or experiences with this printer?
My best!,
B

I just bought the Canon i9900. It prints borderless prints ( you can have a border) in a wide range of sizes. My first trial print was with a non Canon paper and it came out beautifully. I went with the i9900 after being with another photographer that prints regularly with Red River papers. The nice thing is you can print up to 13X19 - and the print quality is equal or better to what I was paying for at Wolf Camera. The inks are also rated for longevity and archival qualities.

I appreciate your feedback! I have heard wonderful things about it, but was a little scared about using another companies paper on it. I am a portrait photographer, and I am very quality conscious. I have been using a lab that prints my sheets on an older Epson, so I figure that these prints can only be better, and cost me less. What paper would you recommend? Red river I am not familiar with, but I need a good, photographic paper, lustre, or satin finish, with a good weight.
Thanks again.

The lady I talked to is a portrait photography. She prints all her own shots and loves the Red River Papers. They have a wide variety of paper types. I haven't researched the prices, but they look good to me.

The main thing the manual that came with the printer said was to avoid postcards.

Not too many postcards printed here. Mostly 8 x 10 sheets. I cheked out that Red River Paper and It looks very nice! I am ordering my printer tomorrow, and will order some of that paper also. Its about half price of the canon version, and in the sizes I need. I do appreciate the suggestion!

I've been thinking about getting this printer for a few weeks now. I just found it for cheaper than average, too :(

i printed out the photo of myself within this photo (in two pieces, 13x19 each) on my canon i9900. It was my first print off of it and I loved the results.

You wont be disappointed. Photoshop User magazine did a comparison of different papers, you may want to check it out for what looked best for portraits. I've tried the Konica Minolta paper, Kodak, Print Works, Epson and HP paper in mine so far and all have printed out very nicely. I'm going to try Moab and now Red River also.
