I wonder if they started?

This actually did happen in the US. I saw it on the news a month or so ago. It's really astounding! 2 Story homes by the water were encased in ice and so were all the vehicles..everything!

These look like the images that were widely circulated a month and a half ago showing an ice storm alongside lac leman in Geneva, Switzerland... The background of the minibus shot certainly looks European...

This is not really a confession since I didn't claim the photos to be mine and did not intend to.

The shots are not mine and were e-mailed to me at work from somebody who got them from somebody else, who got them from somebody etc. etc.

We were trying to work out where it is, we thought possibly Canada because of the French looking buildings and the western style cars...

Somebody else suggested Finland...

Does anybody know? Or have a better guess?

See previous post; they are on the shores of Lac Leman in Geneva Switzerland. I Didn't mean to imply you were "passing them off" if that's what you thought, blackdog; I was answering Goldberry's post. I don't think they are USA images...

Check out the ice encasing the aerials on the cars...

Do you know what this implies? The original photographer is getting no credit for taking the photos. It would be just as easy for someone to copy and email out any incredible photo from this site and have it going from person to person without credit where credit's due.

There was no photo credit that I recall, the images came originally from a news site. I'll google it up when I get a chance. I seem to recall they were "staff" photos...

Actually, considering the number of people that died, the harships suffered by farmers, the maple syrup industry, the amount of time people were without power and those people (myself included) that had to cope with life without most of commodities we take for granted... this seems picturesque.

I would never wish the "Ice Storm" on anyone... for it was pure hell. Were it not for the valiant efforts of hydro workers from across Canada and the USA, the situation would have been much worse.

Thanks bear music, you were correct here's a link to a site giving more details and photos.

Ice Storm

And no I didn't think you were implying anything, I just thought I would make it clear they were not mine. If I had known the original photographer I would have given him/her credit. I just thought they were interesting enough to share, I've never seen the like before!

On the shores of the North Sea, where I am, it doesn't get that cold.

I actually thought they were yours becasue when I clicked on the images, it said Blackdog underneath. :)
Thanks for posting. That's unimaginable to me and enjoyed seeing them.

My Geneva based brother-in-law sent us photographs of a cabin cruiser which sank because of the weight of the accumulated ice.

Blackdog, you got about 5 or 6 favs on shots that aren't your own. Ouch! LOL

Damn, it was 70f, sun shining and a cool breeze all day today. Wish I could play on the ice.

You think that doesn't happen.
I got a quote once in an email. Quite eloquent. Under the quote it said: - unknown.

The quote was a line from one of Robert Frost's poems!

Really? I never looked... Like I said I just thought people might be interested in seeing them, never intended to claim them.

Getting favorites is nice but it doesn't mean anything when the shots are not yours.
