This member appears to be a collection of photographers, rather than one person: profile. They haven't scored very well in any of the challenges they've entered, so it's not like they're much competition for many people here, but somehow it seems to violate the spirit of the site, IMHO. Does anybody else feel that way, or am I just making too much of this?

I think it is a learning area for disadvantaged people. I have seen it before and really have not had a concern. If you are unsure why not drop them a message, I'm sure they will answer your questions.

I think I have seen something about other programs like it.

from the rules, regarding ownership: If you wish to collaborate with others when creating your submission, you will need express permission from the administrators beforehand.

though i can't speak for the group or d&l, but considering what bob offered, i would imagine this would be an effort d&l would support.

now, if it were a consortsium of professionals who were knocking down ribbons on a regular basis...

Donald's personal profile explains the group a bit better than the groups profile does. His profile also mentions their membership being approved on Nov. 8, 2004.

David

/edit: Forgot to mention that I have no problem with this at all. It sounds like a good learning experience -- it certainly has been for me. :p

I just used their email back end and came up with this.
Link to their web page.

It is the and I quote from the web page.

The Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities

So no issues there.

For the reasons mentioned above, this group requested and was granted specific permission to share this account and to collaborate on challenge entries. In this case we felt the benefits of granting that permission far outweighed the drawbacks.

Now I understand why the clause allowing collaboration was included in the rules. I think it'a a good thing to do anytime we can share the educational aspects of dpc.

I happy to see that the Admins. and SC had the decency to grant this group special permission.

Tim (aronya1) - Thanks for bringing this to light. Without your post I probably would have missed this entire scenario. Who has time to peruse thousands of profiles? :-)

I think what this group is doing is outstanding and I applaude all those in DPC that supported the decision to allow collaborations of this type.

I've just added them to my favorite photographers list so I can follow their work.

Leading by example? Outstanding!

I added them as well.

They'll probably beat me in the bridge challenge....Good for them.

I am touched by this group's photographic efforts and thrilled that they have chosen to learn and share through DPC. This alone makes the membership investment worthwhile for me.

I think I'd have been disappointed in this site if they'd been turned down. There is so much to learn here and we can certainly share space with a disabled group wanting to learn more. More power to them if they do win a ribbon!

Added also, great idea

Not only am I in favor of this particular "group", I'd support any group consisting of a secondary school art class, for example. Let them collaborate on producing images and entering them, a great learning experience.

Yep would have been great to have that chance when we were at school, ok I know the www, digital camera's and desk top pc's were not around when I was at school but you get my drift.

Thanks, everybody, for the input. I feel much better about their participation here, now (perspective is everythig, isn't it?). I like the idea of commenting on their photos & will be doing so ASAP.

I love the values this site promotes. I really enjoy being part of it.

That is so awesome! Its good you asked aronya1 because I did not know anything about that... I used to make donuts and cookies from the bakery I worked at special for a group like that. My aunt is (truely a miracle and a heart of gold) fits into the category so its a very awesome thing to share... They are very bright and brilliant! Its just nobody wants to take time to talk to them or get to know them .. :)
May Dpchallenge be blessed with many blessings (Drew and Langdon), site council and everyone else that makes up the site...

i also am really glad this has come out, and while everybody is fresh and supportive of what clictacamera is about, i would like to offer the following:

when you are voting and commenting on challenges, consider that the image in front of you might be one of theirs, or that it might be one from a younger member, or that it might be someone's first time out.

no one improves without honest criticism, but whether or not it is constructive depends entirely on how it it delivered.

Absolutely right on the money. How something is said is at least as important as what is being said.

i think this is wonderful, and it is really cool to see this group get so much support. awesome, guys. :)

Thanks for the e-mail Britannica. You would be surprised how many groups like us continue to do childlike crafts Monday through Friday from 9 to 5. Our effort to enter mainstream is always daunting. Participating on this site for example is a three year preparation (from concept, fundraising, self education and iron will determination) with little or no support along the way. Of course this will bother someone or someones. Apologies and LTS or "Lifes too short". Finding "gold mine" activities in my local and extended community is what I get paid for. It's my job and I love exploding beyond the boundaries of the "box". Thanks for all the nice comments. For now I wish I had more time to train co-workers to excel into groups like DPChallenge.

Donald
