With out the studio equipment. Lets see how many can accomplish a good portrait in a homemade studio.

I know one man who creates portrait purely by natural light coming across the face through a window. It is an effective technique. It must be pretty easy if you can afford the whole studio set-up, but more of a challenge if you have to make do with lamps from the d.i.y. shop. I am determined to have a go though.

Reverieand Quiet Contemplation were both done without studio equipment. The first was natural light coming thru the window. The second was a home depot work light. |

I think the available light portrait is a very good idea. We had to do available light before we were shown how to do studio portraits. Maybe have a series of challenges a few weeks apart. 1. Available light portrait and 2. artificial light source portrait. |

Light Source Challenge
But.. I agree that we could use more as it is key to making great photos.

Karen, I loved your portraits; particularly reverie. That was very beautiful. Gives me something to aim at ;)
