I saw this on amazon (scroll down a bit):

link

and it looks very questionable, but amazon guarentees it. Is this even worth looking in to?

Am sure I've seen a similar thread, think about it for a moment then, if you honestly think its legit then buy it and I'll buy it off you for $1000.

Someone is obviously losing a lot of money in the deal. But as long as it's not you and it's totally legit, I'd say go for it! Risky nonetheless.

You best read all the fine print on this deal. I know that I and others have reviewed a similar "deal" on Amazon a while back, and when all was said and done, there was NO WAY I would ever send this person any money.

While it was true that it was posted on Amazon, payment was to be made via Western Union and as such was no longer covered by the Amazon guarantee. A call was made to Amazon.com and the information provided was that they DO NOT work that way.

In essence, if the deal sounds too good to be true,,,,,,,,changes are it is...

Make sure you check everything out before you send anyone any of your hard earned cash.

I tried to purchase this, and amazingly enough the product was unavailable. I tried the next two in line and had the same results. All of these were from sellers with no history, and even though Amazon had the protection, the customers were out of product.

Scam all the way.

Check the low price seller ratings. of all the dealers that are offering these cameras for under $600, there are 5 of them, not one has a dealer rating. Amazon guarantees your purchase and I will guarantee you will have to use amazon's guarantee to get your money back.

The dealer that is selling the 20D for $320 also has a 1Ds Mark II for $320. Imagine that!

ALERT...ALERT

Look at the URL it may be a scam site to get your information.

//s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y03Y3491961Y7293587/102-8462673-9419334

//s not https:// as in secure site.

I went to the TRUE amazon.com and they have no pages with http//:s.... that I can see.

I would not do unless you know it's not a fraud site!!!

No, folks, NO!
I have been through this before.

I was very very suspicious, but wanted to go as far as I could (without losing my money) to find out what would happen:

Amazon does NOT guarantee anything in this case.
These "deals" don't go through Amazon at all. You have to email the dealers. They tell you to pay them via Western Union, and then they even send out something looking like it came from Amazon, but it didn't. As soon as I started communicating with them, their ad disappeared from the Amazon website (and, I assume, turned up under a different name a few hours later).

I PHONED Amazon and was told to ONLY buy something when it goes through them - otherwise they will not guarantee it.

We would all love to save hundreds and hundreds of dollars, but there is no such thing as a free lunch :-(
Be careful!

I'm a vendor on Amazon.com and basically everything is automated. You have a log-in page where you can upload products, prices, descriptions, etc. It seems like there is a good possibility that scams can slip by because it's a computer system, with not too much human review I think.

Run like the wind.

It is very disappointing that Amazon lets these crooks stay on their site. This should be policed much better or the site itself will lose credibility.

It is not through amazon it is through a pirated site.

What makes you think its a "pirated" site? This is surely THE Amazon website, isn't it?

Edited to say:
Then again, perhaps it is not. When I now click on the link, it doesn't take me to where I was before.

Sad part about Amazon is that I reported all this to them (as suggested by Amazon staff during the phone call), but they never even bothered to answer me!

Do not do the mistake of buying one of those, there is no doubt in my mind it's eyther a joke or some fraud attempt, I already wrote to amazon about it. I showed it to a fellow Romanian photographer and he noticed that the names for the shops are romanian names, and not only that, but the kind of joke names you put on your friends in school, nicknames, funny names. Plus they are all newly registered. So in my mind it is not a doubt about it. I hope it's a joke and not a fraud, and amazon reads my email and takes action. Until then just don't send your money or whatever!

1. Open 2 browser windows, one with the fraud link above and the other just type in www.amazon.com [real site].
2. Go to the bottom of the page where you see "My Account"on both sites.
3. Notice that the true amazon.com url is //..... and the fraud is //s-...... when you put in your info they have it. When you click that link if both were from amazon.com they would take you to the same url.

Remember the thread where every word could be mispelled but you could read it just so long as the first and last letter is the same because your eyes see words as pictures? thats what they are trying to do here and hope a few fall for it.

https://
//s

PLUS notice they are all below the $500 flag limit on most CC's

I have had SunTrust Bank emails that look very real asking for information. I called them and they said they had reports of it but it is still going on. I get them from time to time. The funny thing is I don't have an account with them. lol

The site I just checked is Amazon's and regularly has shysters listed with the legit outfits. //www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/B0002XQJFA/new/ref%3Dbuy%5Fpb%5Fn%5F/002-7368827-3064800 shows a 20D for $320.00....riiiight. These do disappear quickly but reappear under new seller names.

I am in the process of getting out of one of these scams myself. They have $600 of my money tied up right now. I hope to get it back. I plan on boycotting Amazon for allowing this practice through their website. I should have know better, but greed set it.

Don't forget, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is!

Amazon will guarantee any purchase made from their site.

However, read the Amazon A-to-z Guarantee before making any purchases from a non-Amazon vendor. It states that a purchaser is eligible to receive up to US$2500 for purchases made using Amazon payments. If the purchase was outside Amazon payments system, then the purchaser is eligible to receive up to US$250.

Gear lust can get the best of us. If you could get a 20D for $300 then we would see the camera at that price everywhere (B&H, Adorama, etc.).

one more things I noticed, they the sellers change names, an hour ago there whas a completely different names for all of them. I whas about to show it to some friend now about how they all are so romanian, and now they are all changed. They still sound romanian but are different. Probably these guys had find a way to hack into amazon's system or god knows what they did just don't put any money in it! it is such a scam.

Your right, some of them have already changed since this thread was first started.

Until Amazon fixes this hole in their security either stay off the site completly or only deal with vendors who have exstensive good ratings.
