Hello. I just got the Minolta 7Hi but I have my first qs about it. What kind of battery do you use? Are the ones that come in the box ok? or should I replace it? This is because, yesterday the batteries last almost all day long and today I only could take like 15 photos, some with flash and the batteries went dead.

Which batteries came with the camera? There are different strengths of rechargable batteries, try to find a set with at least 1800mah's. It seems that the batteries never last as long as you think they should, it is always a shock to new digital camera owners. There are things you can do to lengthen the life of your batteries, like only viewing through the EVF and not using the flash too much.

I have had my camera since August 2002, and I still use the batteries that came with camera. Of course, I have several sets of rechargables now, I always have 4 sets of freshly charged batteries when I go on the road for a day (it's overkill but better safe than sorry). NI Mh batteries are the ones you want to use. To save battery power when shooting, don't use the LCD Display, it uses a lot of power. Using the flash will depleat the batteries too. When it's cold out, the batteries lose power faster.

I'm a strong fan of the DigiPower DPS-9000 external battery pack. You should be able to find it for about $30, it includes cables to fit the Minolta DiMage 7 and most other cameras as well. I still carry extra batteries "just in case" but have yet to need them since getting the battery pack.

The pack weighs about the same as 5 AA batteries so is only a little extra weight for a lot of extra power.

Thats correct. Get a minimum of 8- 1800mah nickel hidrate batteries and a charger. These batteries loose 10% of their charge within the first 8 hours of charging even if they are not used but are far superior to alkaline batteries for digital camera use.Enjoy your Hi. I sure have loved my 7 for over 16 months now.

I've used rechargables off and on for several months, but I use Energizers' lithium ion batteries most of the time. I find that they last longer than eny rechargable. Unfortunately they are a little expensive.

Thank you all. I got the DPS-9000 for 79.99 plus tax in houston. I am going to buy also a spare of NiMH Energyzer rated 1800 just in case, that makes 8 AA (4 sanyo that comes with the camera and 4 Energyzers) and the DPS.

Thank you all.

My DiMage7 came with a set of Sanyo Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries and a charger, and I have since gotten a collection of different brands. I have energizer, radio shack and fuji brands of rechargables and honestly just like the guys at Ritz Camera told me batteries are batteries just know the life of the battery to get the best buy. Just make sure once you get a charger you get batteries that work in it, who needs 3 or 4 different chargers laying around!
