I'm always baffled by some of the challenge results. I've decided to resume posting threads for what I feel are the three most underrated photos in the challenges. I used to do this a while back and got out of the habit. So without further ado, my appreciation awards for the Light challenge go out to...

Feel free to give your appreciation to these photographers for posting such fine work regardless of their scores or to post other photographs that you feel were underrated.

I thought this one would finish a bit higher.

Hey... My picture is in there, alright! :-)
I thought it would do better myself but due to a lot of helpful comments I know where to improve next time.

When I voted on goodman's picture "highlights" I gave it a 10, it was perfect to me. The high-keyness, the play on the word light ect ect... Good man, goodman.

Hey now, I know some of these photos may not have done as well as you would have liked, but the majority of them (all other than laurielblacks, which I agree is excellent) got 6's so I don't think there's that much to complain about. I chose the three lowest scoring photos that I gave 8 or above.

Alright.. I'll bite.
This:

was by far the most underrated photo :) I mean.. honestly, rock yourself back and forth while staring at it.. cool beans!!

How many of us would have even *Thought* of something so simple, yet so fun.. and it's pure light, so meets the challenge completely.

He didn't even get the *brown*.. poor guy.

116th place

146th place

254th place

and this:

29th place; admittedly a good finish but I had thought it would be easily top 10 and perhaps a winner, an original and quite exhilarating image of luminous light in an enclsoed space.

Thanks Robt. :) I'm happy with my score...

riotspyne: we have very similar tastes. Those were all just a little up my list from the three I posted. :)

Let's not forget this one-

way too low at 164th place. I thought this was one of the more outside-the-box entries, with such an unusual perspective and composition.

Not to take away anything from the winners, but I thought these should have been 1st 2nd and 3rd, in the order I have them below..

I think this displays the problem with the advanced editing rules - I'm certain the weirdness of the apparent effect hurt the shot. Proper, and glorious, shooting.

was the picture I had in mind when I ran out of time and blurred it over and over again attempting to remove some persistent banding. When I noticed that the blurred image moved about as I leaned forward and back, I thought that was a cool effect. It was also an effect for which I did not have a ready explanation. So, I entered it in the contest to share with others and see if others experienced the same effect.

For those, who did experience the same effect, I am most thankful. I received more 10s for this picture than any I have ever entered. Thank you Artyste for adding it to the list of under appreciated photos. I think if I had used a better title that let people know that there was something more to be experienced when rocking back and forth when looking at the picture, it might have done even better. Perhaps not. It certainly is not in the same class with the pictures whose photographers achieved through much effort the effect they were attempting to achieve. There were so many great photos entered in this contest, I would not have expected my submission to have done any better.

Thanks aerogurl and JPR... I really appreciate the mention of my light entry. I knew it was a long shot but I was still pleased with the way that self portrait turned out. Naturally, it's one challenge too late! LOL

...maybe I'm just ahead of my time! ;o) ROFL

most of my high scores did pretty good. I gave four 10's this challenge. This 10 however went way lower than I guessed it would.
