Anyone else get their worst score on the Best of 2004 challenge?
02/01/2005 09:00:20 AM · #2
Pretty close to my worst.

Not my worst, but a pretty crappy score! That's okay, it wasn't a great photo...best of 2005, now that will be great...

OMG, get over it. It happens on e-v-e-r-y challenge. Some people are just complete a-holes. You have to learn to live with it.

close but not quite my worst.... sigh I've had the shot I entered up on DPCprints for months... Haven't sold many from there, but it's sold well directly from my website.. go figure.

I see that you also received a 10, which might also be taken as "not deserved." Removing both aberrant scores from the voting would give you about the same average. I got a 1 for this shot as well...

Do you see a face? Is the photo technically horrible? Even in Free Studies, ones are rampant. You just can't please all the people all of the time.

dropping the 1's and 2's from your submission would have made a difference of exactly 0.09 - is that all it takes for you to start dropping a-bombs?

we all participate together ... we all deserve what we get ... dealing with disappointment builds character ... take heart, you're stronger today

:)

In a challenge like this, where you are selecting a photo from possibly thousands that you took over the year, your score is more a reflection of your photo selection ability then your photographic ability. If your score was below average, it just means your idea of a good photo differs from most. Not a bad thing at all.

well i got 16 1's and 12 2's...but i also got 16 10's and 12 9's....go figure ;)

subject matter may have had something to do with those low scores...

well taken BTW.

I did the best I have ever done. However, I did get 4 twos. Which those that score me low would give me a reason. With all the great comments I got... Is it purely because I had a child in my photo?

lowest ever. I think that some voters out there are voting backwards thinking that 1 is Great. I don't think I got any ones either though.
D'oh! I submitted a photo of my little girl. Since photos of kids most the time get panned (even though kids are the major reason for all camera purchases), I kind of expected it. Next time I'll submit a horse, a chessboard, a flower, a woody, or a wine glass. Then I'll do well. JK.

I will continue to submit the pictures of my girl as she is what I am most proud of.

Pretty near to my worst for a shot that deserves to be near the top of my personal challenge portfolio imho. There's definitely a different curve for free studies. And I think this challenge was really just too big for entries to really be judged fairly. Ah well...

Sees to be that most people prefer bird pictures... Ugh... I thought to be a good photographer you took pictures of what interests you the most and is most readily available to you.

I wouldn't change what you take your pictures of... I think those that vote down a photo because it has a child in it need to change their thinking.

I actually had someone leave a comment "does'nt meet the challenge". Now tell me is this not an oxy moron or what.

I looked at his comment, clearly he was trying to make a joke.

hdogg, this was the comment you left me:

Challenge: 6
Composition: 8
Technical: 7
Appeal: 7
Overall 7

If the "Challenge: 6" wasn't a judgement of how well the photo met the challenge, what was it? I'm not trying to be rude here, I'm just curious since this post seems to indicate that you share my opinion that there is no challenge to be met in the case of best of 04.

I got 0 1's and 0 10's, 1 2 and 1 9, 7 3's and 7 8's in "Faceless"--what symmetry! (I wonder what that means?!)

That is not an oxy moron. Ironically, by you pointing it out like that the issue has become an oxy moron.
