Great grey owls which are seldom seen have moved out of their boreal forest habitat in the north in search of food! It is really great to watch them hunt. They become much more active at dusk. They have taken roost in and around Ottawa and offer great opertunites for local photographers. I now have Cannon L lense fever after seeing so many today! Just thought I would share some pictures! Comments welcome.

I sure did Have fun! I saw 6 owls today so it would be hard not to get some good ones. Anyone in the Ottawa area find March Valley road in Kanata and you will do well!

Great shots indeed. I do know that as soon as I get back home I will make a point of finding that location and trying my best to capture shots like these... truly awesome.

Its behind the Alcatel building on March road. Right on Terry Fox, left on to March Valley road. They are predicted to be around for another 3 weeks. The Owls are more active on cloudy days!

The third pic is pretty extraordinary.... Reminds one of a Gryphon, medieval imaginary beast with head of lion and, typically, short, upright wings.

They are all great shots but I like the 6th one alot. You say you have L glass fever and these are great so what lens did you use? I have to admit that I also have L glass fever.

I use a cheap 70-300mm Sigma f4-5.6 , paid $110 US for it! I would sure like to get a decent L tele-lens. I must have seen 8 nice lenses on the weekend the most expensive at $12000. Thats way out of my league!

They are sticking around so far Ray. These are from Today just outside Munster.

It was late afternoon so not lots of light

Very cool shots Neil. I think the 4th one (Grey Owl_275511.jpg) is the best for it's sharpness. But the 6th (Grey2627.jpg) is soo cool because of the way you caught him so dead straight on. Keep up the good work.

Ottawa area, gonna be there for another 3 weeks, eh. Wish I could get away.
