Hey! I submitted my first challenge photo today. I've been lurking and admiring the great photos here for a while, so I thought I'd stop in and introduce myself. Most of the pictures here are quite a bit better than anything I've produced, but I'm hoping to improve and learn to maximize my limited natural talent. :) So remember, when you're voting this week, and you think "wow, what a newbie!", that one is probably mine - be merciful!

Chris

Welcome, I found this place last week and submitted a photo. It's a really fun site. Along with my number 1 hobby geocaching, this site has co-workers giving me hints on pictures and different ideas for the challenges. Good luck on your first challenge. I learned some good tips from everyone that has commented on my picture so far. Thanks!!

Well, all I can say I hope you have thick skin. I'm on my 4th submission now and my first three were beat up pretty badly. Since we don't know who submitted the picture until after the voting is done, it wouldn't be possible to conciously "be kinder" to one contestant than to another.

If you haven't already noticed, what the general populous here seems to prefer is high contrast and (unless its a b/w) intense color. I have spent hours examining past challenges and that seems to be a "constant."

I've been here only a few weeks, chatting, voting, commenting.
Yesterday I submitted a photo.
Personally I don't think it's very good, but I wanted to participate anyway so I did. I think my skins tough enough on this one because I _know_ it's very lacking. I am sure I will find it harder to accept negative comments on a photo I adore, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

:)

Good luck!

Welcome everyone to our growing community. Just keep this in mind. DPC is addictive and much like Hotel California. You can check out any time you like but you can never leave. : " )

Welcome! I'm sure you will enjoy this place, as well as learn a lot. Believe shortredneck - she speaks the truth - ADDICTIVE - you will wonder how you ever survived before dpc. One of the best things about this site is the variety of experience and opinions, as well as the chance to communicate and get views of people from all over the world.

Enjoy and keep submitting!

Hey, thanks for the welcomes!

Is everyone around here irrationally eager for the voting to start, or is it just us newbies??

I believe its everybody not just the newbies. I have been here since March and the excitement is still the same when you’ve submitted a photo. I love getting up on a Monday morning you get to see where you placed in the previous challenge AND how your new submission is faring in the current challenge, then you realise you gotta go to work. I then spend most the day sitting at work wishing I had net access so I could see how my photo is doing.

Kudos! I was brought up to believe that when it hurts it's a stretch and you're learning!
I'm glad you posted. We've all been through it and it's worth it!

Thanks :)
Now ask me at the end of the week whether I still want to participate! No, only kidding, I am good. I am mentally expecting an average down at the lower end, so it hopefully won't hurt too much! I'll wait and see on the comments of course!

I waited around staring at my watch for an hour, and when my next batch of 8 votes came in my average score changed by only 0.001!! What a waste of an hour.

I'm not sure I have the right personality stability level for this voting thing! :)

Hey "Newbie"! it seems you already have more than enough to start on the right foot... I'm refering to your so-so ("Oh my god is that a canon D60") camera...

Gues you're not so innocent as you sound ; )

LM, it's true that I have a decent tool, but it's not the hammer that builds the house. It turns out that I have more money than talent or time.. and I need all the help I can get! :)
