Took this yesterday with a 50 1.8. Also, no flash, I just forgot about fixing the white balance.

Post-processing
curves, levels, some burning on an earring, minor application of the usm applied, and a little bit of cropping.

What a beautiful girl! I really like this shot...of course, it's unfortunate that the face of the lady behind her isn't fully visible but despite that it's still great!

I would also crop the left side to get rid of the pillows...

Great photo!

Also, is she holding a chewed cigar?

I pretty much agree with the above. Really nice shot of the girl, but it's a shame the lady behind isn't either out of shot, or visible too.

I like it a lot..and I like only seeing the partial face of the other woman. To me, it looks like she's having a conversation with someone else off camera but the little girl is way more interested in what you're doing..ie, taking her picture. Very mischievious (sp?).

Portrait is excellent, but the woman behind her is distracting, because of the way she is behind her. She kinda blends into the girl.

If she was moved over more, it would compliment the composition more. Thats just my opinion. :)

Fantastic capture of the little girl!
I do find the lady behind the girl a little distracting, but I think it's because the dark area around her right eye almost blends in with the little girl's hair. As GoldBerry said, the composition is interesting because it shows another conversation happening behind the girl. I think you needed maybe just a fraction more separatoin between the hair and dark right eye (movement left an inch (not in photoshop), or maybe a little more background blur so the lady is visable but clearly in a different plain))

Skamal,

You have a great shot here with which you can do a lot.

Here's my quick take:

You could very easily do much better.

The little girl is a great subject -- keep your camera on her.

Thanks for the comments and help everybody. Greatly appreciated.

@ thatcloudthere
She’s actually holding this pastry, I’m not sure the origins, but I believe it’s a middle eastern pastry. It has a hard crunchy shell on the outside, and usually cheese filled on the inside (although this one was chocolate).

@ bdobe
Wow, the crop is amazing, it really makes her the focus of the image, as she should be. It gives the image a whole new perspective. Thanks. I think I'm goign to play around with some more portraits I have and see how a closer crop would work.
