Hey --

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with adding a telephoto lens onto a Dimage (5, 7, or 7i). I bought a 2X Crystal Optics (? -- can't remember if that was the brand or not) with my camer and it has been great EXCEPT I still get some vignetting in the corners even at maximum zoom. It's not a huge problem 'cause most of the time it can get cropped out, but still...

If you can provide brands and/or links that would be great. Seems the guys at my local camera store are kinda snooty when it comes to digital. La-dee-dah.

I have been doing some research on the 7i, as I think I am about to become the new owner of one (any tips, hints, etc. appreciated). From what I have read, the Olympus A-201 1.5x adapter is a perfect match, with no vignetting at all. I think this lens is out of production, so it may not do much good. However, if you find one let me know, and I will do the same. I wish I could find the web site where I got all this information; will post it if I find it.

A good site to look at for all things DiMAGE related is DCExperiments. There's everything from add on lenses to colour space conversion tips.

BTW, what is the auto-focus speed like on the 7i? My humble D5 is truly atrocious at times - it will hunt for about a second and then give up completely. Even at its best, I don't think it ever takes less than a quarter to a half a second :-(. Other than that, its a great little camera! I've certainly been glad of the 250mm zoom on a number of occasions although increasing it even more would be good.

Another good resource is the Minolta forum at dpreview.com. The forum is searchable and nearly any question one might ask has likely been discussed at length already. If not then there is usually someone with good info to a reasonable question. BTW, the Olympus A200 and B300 seem to be the most popular for the D7/7i, but both are out of production.

Thanks Gene for putting up the correct model number . I remembered A201 when it was A200. Sounds like a good option if one could be found.
