i realized i had some dust on my sensor, and in a moment of stupidity, i blew into the camera and, yep you guessed it. got a bit of spittle on it. how badly have i screwed myself over? advice?

Not at all. Sensor swabs should do the trick. There are tons of threads over at dpreview.com about people sneezing into their cameras when sensor cleaning etc.

Depends on how bad. If it looks bad send it to Nikon. Otherwise you end up smearing goo all over the place. Those little bastards are hard to clean.

eclipse and sensor swab. Then next time u wanna clean it use the sensor brush.

so what if the spots remain after using the solution and swab?

speaking of such...i went to the photography convention in new orleans today and approached the nikon counter about sensor cleaning supplies...LOL. They said we should NEVER use those swabs on our sensors! This led to a conversation about the trials and abuse my nikon has endured. They were amazed. I didnt even include the hair dryer incident...if only they knew...

I blew the shutter out of my 1Ds last summer tryng to clean it. I let Canon (who incidentally has informed me this morning they cannot locate my camera in their facility) do the cleaning periodically.

and its official, i am down and out for the count for 2-5 weeks while i wait for nikon to give it a look and fix it.....
