Has participating in DPC led you to getting another/new camera? If so why?

Actually I did get a new camera after participating in DPC but it wasn't the reason I got it. It did however help me in selecting a new camera.

I was already looking at Digital SLRs but didn't have any idea which one I was going to get. I got acquainted with a few different digital slrs through the challenge, which helped me make up my mind. I had it narrowed down to a fuji and a minolta. The final decision was made after holding both cameras and I selected the Minolta because of the way it fit in my hand.

I got my current camera after participating in DPC. My first digital was my first camera I've ever owned, and after getting aquainted with it and submitting a couple times here, I wanted more control over my pictures, so I got a camera that gave me the control, but was still pocketable.

Primarily I wanted to be able to change the ISO and shutterspeeds, plus, by that time my first camera was obsolete (technology wise anyways) and the new ones had a lot of interesting features. It's my last camera though, until it breaks, or until I graduate and get a high paying job through which I can afford a DSLR (the new Canon EOS 10D looks nice)

Also just purchased another memory card so I don't have to worry about running out of space, now have 400 MB total = P

I found DPC on the net and saw some really nice pictures. It made me decide to upgrade (from a HP 315 I bought in April '02) to a Canon G2. That was in July 2002. Now I'll be getting the Canon 10D in April of '03. Man, 3 cameras in one year. Yes I have a very loving and understanding wife.

I am keeping the 315 and the G2. G2 is alot more portable than the 10D and takes great pictures. the 315 is great for fishing trips, parties ... where losing the camera wouldn't break my heart, or the Bank.

I started out with a little Sony, convinced my husband that I "just had to have the 707" and yes, it was because of DPC. If it weren't for DPC, I would still be wondering around shooting snapshots and absolutely not caring what my shutter speed or f-number thingy was.

DPC has led me to get a new camera (Fuji A101) for Isaac so he wouldn't have to borrow mine. It's a bit of a downgrade, but I think he can handle it...Mostly I think DPC has helped me be more creative with whatever tools I have.

I suppose if it had not been for DPC I may not have got back into photography, after first seeing images posted here and the challenge's , my photo bug fire was fanned quite a bit. Its agony however waiting for my Camera (fuji s602 ) to get back from Fuji for reapairs and cleaning, Its been almost 2 months .Fuji owners beware!!
So out of despair or the itch I guess ,I picked up a Canon Elan 7e film camera and have been taking slides. I also couldnt resist in getting a few lenses and am looking at buying the new 10 d when the dust settles over the madness of Canon enthusiasts rushing to buy. My poor little Pentax Program Plus sits in it bag colecting dust. Its not worth much now with this new digital craze going on.

In fact as a side note this brings to mind a sad thing about digital. There's a little used camera shop in my town which has been in buisness for over 16 years selling film cameras of all brands and type . Well they will soon be going out of buisness due in part to this new digital revolution.

But at as far as my latest count of cameras including digital video I have 6 and that number is growing. I think I may need to join a support group or something before this gets out of hand.

If you have an older digital you're not using you might donate it you your local school or youth center. Kids love taking pictures and digital makes it affordable...

It was the thought of joining in with dpchallenge that prompted me to buy another digital. I was using a Sony Mavica, but had no control over shutter speed or aperture. I thought if I was going to get serious about digital photography I would need a new one, so I went for the new Sigma SD9. It is the cheapest slr and has fairly decent reviews. I have only used it once so I hope that I will begin to get more used to it as the weeks go by.

Anthony.

I haven't bought a new camera yet, but I'm constantly feeling tempted. I have this crazy idea of challenging myself to see what I can do with a really basic camera; also the idea of having something smaller and less conspicuous to use when I'm not comfortable to drag out the one I've got. But then sometimes I feel like getting a better camera as my pictures never seem to be as sharp as I would like. Where all the money's going to come from I don't know!

Excellant Idea ,however I only have one digital still camera and its being repaired. I have however already donated an old Pentax Me Super to a student who aspires to be a photographer. And if either of my kids have the same ambition they will get handed down the rest of my equipment . If not, it will go to the local school.

It was the opposite for me. I started DPC because I got a camera. I suspect that is true of a lot of others, particular those joining in the last 6 months

DPChallenge absolutely inspired me to get a new camera which I have just recently received and started taking pictures. What a difference going from a 2.5 to a 5 megapixel camera! I have learned alot from looking at the pictures, reading the critiques and the forums on this website. There are some incredible photographers here. This has been a truly enjoyable experience. Thank you DPChallenge.
