I think that it would be interesting to have an extra challenge sometime (since it limits those who participate essentially to those with tripods, and requires use of an image stitching program) that focuses on panoramic shots.. not necessarily the traditional wide or tall shot, but sometimes the shots that are beautiful but took about 6 or 8 pictures to really capture the entire scene.

The problem with this challenge IMO is that the results can be a little disappointing when you view the full image as opposed to the thumbnail. These 2 examples look good on my computer at home but dpc file size limitations have really shrunk the end results. Personally I would welcome this challenge. It's always cool to try this when it works.

I agree the panaramic entries would be severely limited by the current size limits here. However, a composite challenge would be interesting. I would, as suggested, enjoy the challenge more if the composites were all of the same scene, and not simply multiple images cut, arranged and blended together. From landscapes with more dynamic range than the camera can capture to celestrial photos stacked to eliminate the noise of long exposures, there are a lot of possibilities.

I like the idea of this challenge too.

Love the challenge idea, and agree that the 640px limit would severely impact the beauty of the images.

Here's a composite I took of the lunar eclipse the night the Red Sox took the series. They range from full moon to fully eclipsed at about a fifteen minute interval. I'm happy to have captured the deep copper hue of the fully eclipsed moon.

I've taken quite a few panoramas myself...see my panoramas.

This would be a great challenge. Maybe site council could increase the max pixel size for this challenge to something like 1024. File size won't be that big since the other dimension will be so much smaller.
