First of all I want to thank you all for the wonderful comments, all 57 of them. I didn't have one bad comment this time and that is pretty amazing. To answer a question, it is a set up shot of which I will explain.
I got the idea of sprouting a bean and taking its picture as soon as it showed signs of life. It had been many years since I played around with something like this so I had to ask my dear wife to refresh my memory. She thought it was a little crazy but agreed to help. With her guidance on Monday 8/7/02 I set some Pinto beans in a jar with some wet paper towels to get them started. By the evening of the 9th I had some pretty impressive sprouts. I was surprised at how quick they got going. I took several pictures of the baby sprouts but was not satisfied with them. I wanted them to have some leaves coming out, so I had to wait. I didn't think the leaves were ever going to show up and that I would have to go with my earlier picture. I had transferred the beans to a shallow tray where they could have a little more freedom and hoped they would stretch out to see the outside world.
Finally on Saturday they looked about right. Early Sunday morning I set up the final take. I set the best looking one up on a hill of dried Pinto beans to make it look as though it had got its start there. I was unable to get enough beans up in the top of the picture to really fill it like I wanted, and that is why the bean itself is so near to the top of the picture.
I had a lot of fun with this one and I am hooked more now than ever before.
Darn you guys, and gals.

And there is today's new "How'd the do that". Thank you for sharing it with us. I wondered as well how it was done. You read my mind. And many others I'm sure. ~Heather~ |

It was my favorite shot of the week. Thanks a bunch for sharing how it was created. I wondered if you had enough time during the week to sprout that baby and still get it in. Great job! |

Thanks Autool for sharing that. The picture is great and I really love it. I had thought about sprouting some beans too, but I never would have come up with your creative arrangement. Congratulations!

Your photo made it look easy, but it sure sounds like it was a lot of hard work!
It was well worth it, and was one of my favorites last week.
Congrats! |
