I was hired for my first real photo job. A coworker asked me if I would go hunting with him to photograph a hunt. He was very pleased with my work, paid me $100 for 2 hours of shotting and bought $260 worth of prints. 36 5x7's and 10 8x12's. Said he was more than happy and he will be recommending to all his friends.

So I ended up making about $200 for the whole job. Not a whole lot of money, but he is spreading the word.

Travis99- way to go! Are you seriously pursuing photography as a way to earn a living? Looking at the pics you just posted, I think that maybe you should consider doing so :<>

Damn Travis!!! Great shots! Great exposure! Word of mouth will keep you busy as a bee....Thats all of my advertising. It works! I 2nd nova! One thing that I have found......People seem to like traditional images? I hate it for them, because I'll sell 10 sheets of a bad cheesy smile, and one of a shot that I thought was awesome? But I guess we all have a bit of a different vision? Great work! My best to you!

Thanks, I hope this leads to more jobs. This guy's brother is into racing boats at Poker Runs and he know the photographer who does the aireal photos, and he is hooking me up so I can go with him in the helicopter and take some photos. I will be going this summer. I can't wait.

That is so cool, Travis, and the shots came out really well. You're going to have a great time on that helicopter ride too!

First job, $200, ..... sure beats the heck out of 20 cents a download at Shutterstock. Keep up the good work Travis.

You should see if you can rent a gyroscope for your camera to shoot from the chopper.

Congrats...I video and shoot stills when I hunt. It is much easier to get good photographs when someone else is doing it for you...but much harder to stay hidden from the game animals since there are now two of you and one is holding cameras and such...LOL.
Helps if the photographer is a hunter as well so they will know the nuances and pitfalls...

Congratulations and I wish you much luck...afield and in photography.

Whats a gyroscope?

Travis,

This is great. Nice work, wonderful to do that first paying job. I still remember mine... A parking garage...

But, 36 prints for 260 bucks? That's WAY cheap, man... The most significant source of income for mnost photographers is sale of prints and publication rights, it's a great source of cash flow. Under 8 dollars a print, average, is not leaving enough room for profit margin, really. IMO anyway...

Gyroscope, btw: google it. A gyroscope is a stabilizer. You literally cannot consistently take decent shots from a chopper without one. In a fixed-wing plane, pilot can throttle back and glide and you can do ok.

Robt.

Thanks for the ecouragement everyone. I had another hunter come up to me today and ask if I could photograph a hunt, He said "I want pictures like the famous one of Pauls" He has been showing everyone. Looking good.

Incredible photos! Congratulations on your first paying gig!

a gyro stabizes the camera while so it doens't get as much of the choppers vibes. Ken labs make some nice ones $$ but haven't the foggiest where you rent one.
