At about 5 til midnight I unsubmitted my HIDDEN FACES entry because I wasn't sure the editing was legal... did some heavy burning to enhance the right eye and to a lesser degree the mouth. I had submitted it to the S/C for validation prior to the challenge, but haven't heard back from them, so I pulled it. Not complaining, it's a busy time of year. Sure had hoped to be able to use it, though. Any comments appreciated.

Nova = I think that as long as the dark areas were already there then you could burn them. After looking through the submissions I think you would have done well.

Pitsaman - I saw a number of shots in the group that appear to be staged. At least for me I think they were looking for something naturally occurring. Not sure if your “snapshot” here was made up or not but I would be likely to vote it down a touch for that reason alone.

I was really disappointed by the number of obviously staged shots in this challenge. That takes away the fun from seeing what there is naturally (or mechanically)around us.

I don't think so, the only requirement is that whatever it is, it's not supposed to come with a face.

I just got home tonight and didn't have a chance to go through my shots taken this weekend at Stowe to enter. But I did find a face there while skiing...at the top of Mt. Mansfield...

Unfortunately, it was not in the light, so not a very dynamic image. But let me know what you think. I did a nice photo hike today up Rt. 108 to Smugglers, but unfortunately, it was a gray day and snowing. I'll have to see if I got any nice shots anyway...

Guess I should have setup my shot, I just figured naturally occurring was the way to go. Oh, well... just getting beat up here.

Think it's time to go watch a movie with lots of faces I recognize ;-)

I took a natural shot also and taking a pretty heavy beating. I thought it might happen. You have to take the time to look at the photo to see the face or faces that are photographed. Most people quikly scan the photos while they are voting and might not catch it. I see a couple of setup shots that will prop ribbon. They are really nice shots!

Goodluck to all!

p.s. I am with you Moose101

Here was my shot that I chose not to enter. What do you think? Giraffe?
12/27/2004 01:25:27 AM · #13
Yup, mine is a natural shot also and it is sinking fast!!
Maybe a bit to obscure.
Oh well, it was fun looking for one anyway. Got me out and about. I took two hundred pictures that day and did get a few great shots that had nothing to do with the challenge.

edit: spelling. Damn illiterate fingers!

I'm downgrading everything "staged". It seems to me against the spirit of the challenge. But that's just me...

While I agree 100% with you, you really shouldn't discuss current entries. You need to go back and edit your post.

Yeah, it also could have been "Deer Meets Headlights" instead of "Deer Caught in the Headlights."

Sorry, wasn't thinking. Edited.

Some great entries... a lot of 'faces' in trees.. I spent ages staring at flippin' trees trying to see a face, in the end you start seeing faces that aren't there :-/

Had to go another route in the end....

Good luck all!

Well I got one in a cave and the looks is like a lady with long hair, that was taken in 2003 with a Fuji team.If you like to see you can emailme, but I have to search my fail. The Cave is located in Perlis a small state in Malaysia.

Staged (up to a certain point) or not, anything on which I see a face that shouldn`t normally have one is fine by me. I don`t care if the face is a naturally occurring one or one found on an everyday object. I still haven`t made up my mind if overly obvious assemblages of multiple objects making up a face are ok for me or not. I guess that will happen during voting.

In no way does the challenge state that the the item or thing photographed had to be naturally occurring. The word "natural" is nowhere in the chalenge descriptor. I`m not saying this because my image is bombing. It`s going quite well, thank you.

Congrats to everyone who found faces where they found them and good luck.

I'm quite dissappointed with the pictures in this challenge. Only a few got the meaning and the spirit of the challenge IMO.
12/27/2004 09:44:03 AM · #25
I finished voting and there are a couple that I can't wait until the end of the challenge and see if we found the same hidden face in the shot. Some of them were fantastic, some staged, some reaching but overall a lot of fun to look at! :)
