After I was searching round the web I ran into This Site.
And I think all the Dimage owners and persons looking to buy a Dimage will want to see this!

Basicly the camera only gets hot when you have low or FAULTY batterys..
I was using a set (one of several) that I knew had shorted out... and I was woundering why my camera got very hot on some occasions!
Why I never guessed.. I was very close in another post around here...

Basicly, the camera has to work harder to output the required voltage and ampage if the batteries arn't up to spec.

Some people will be very happy to read this, I'm sure... as new NiMH battery's are cheap fix...

I find it gets hot no matter what batteries are used. It just depends on how long you use it.

Thanks jeremya. I was seriously thinking about buying a dimage 7. I didn't realize it didn't have rechargable batteries or does it. How often do you have to buy the batteries?

The camera itself doesn't come with rechargeable NiMH batteries. It is definitely worth going out and buying a charger and 2 sets of batteries. They dont run out very quickly and you've always got at least 1 set of fully charged batteries. And you've always got time to charge the extra set while you use the others!

I have never ever had a problem with not having batteries that are charged up.

Actually, Minolta now ships the camera with one set of rechargeable batteries and a charger. As you mentioned it is worthwhile to go out and buy a couple extra sets of batteries. I carry 5 sets but that's probably overkill, and I do so because I do much of my shooting at soporting events and other places where I can't readily plug in to recharge my spare batteries. I also think it's worth spending a little extra money to buy a high-quality charger (it makes a significant difference on battery life) as well.

Though alkaline AA batteries will physically fit in the camera, do not use them! The power the camera draws during a shot is too great and the camera can lock up with alkalines.

Sonifo,
This is not a flaw with the camera, don't discount it on that!

TerryGee true it gets a little warm but the CF card should not feel like it's cooking when you take it out striaght after shooting!
If it does I'd look at your charger... some of the cheap ones are really bad... esp one of the lowend Rayovac chagers distroys batteries.

The Dimage 7i comes with a charger (mine just broke :( , going in under warrenty though :) and my flatmate has a spare one.) and a set of some of the best batteries around Sanyo 1850mah! Personally I have two sets of battery's but I may go to three ... esp since I now have a minolta flash unit at my disposal!
