I was considering stepping up another notch or two, or three from my 300D to possibly the 20D or another one of the upper end Canons. In the mean time I was thinking about getting some better lenses to use on my 300 and then just get the body of the new camera down the road. Will all the lenses from the 300D work with all of the other Canon cameras or would I just be spending my money and maybe have to get rid of all the lenses too and start again?

Canon new EF-S (18-55, 10-22) lenses only work on the 300D and the 20D... for now. All other EF lenses work on all Canon digital and film camers that takes these lenses as far as I know.

above is correct - EF mount is compatible with any EF mount digital or film camera - though some of the other accesories for the 300d will not work on the 20d

Add the 17-85 f 4-5.6 IS USM to that list of EF-S lenses that only work with the Rebel and the 20D

In summary... if you want your lenses to be 100% compatible with future Canon EOS cameras, avoid EF-S.
