I received a lot of comments about the monotone nature of 'Verdigris' and the lack of contrast. Still not really comfortable with photoshop (it's not mine so I don't get to play around with it much) but here is a tweaked version. Might have gone a little nutso with the saturation, but I'd love to know what you think of the before and after. Thanks!

I do say, it looks much better. The colors are uber attractive.

It does *pow* a bit more, but I still like the original. Had given it a 9!

I'd say, someplace in between. The updated version is better, more vibrant, but imo, a tad too much. The rust of the wheel seems too bright of a red and the greens are a notch too bright, too. If you are looking for eye catching, you got it! If you are looking for realizm, revisit the original subject with prints of both and see what you think.

I, too, had the original as a 9.

I like the revamped better and hubby agrees.

I really liked the original. But I liked the idea of "punching it up a little' even more. (I believe I scored it an 8)

But too much is too much!

A little less would = more in this instance, imo. But it is an improvement. I have an edited version as well (couldn't stand not too! hope you dont mind.) If you like I will post it or PM it over to you. But I wouldn't want to do either without your conset.

I think the photo needs to be somewhere inbetween. Orginal one is too flat while the other is too sharp. Nice photo though.

I would love to see it! Thanks so much everyone for you kind comments and great scores. I was just about doing backflips when I realized I broke the top forty. Then I realized I can't do a backflip. ;-รพ

Are you telling people how they can download a pirate version of Photoshop 7.0?

OK Kathleen, I didn't have time to get you all the proper credit tacked onto it (i'm on a lunch break, gotta rush), but you know its yours -

My rework of Kathleenm's Verdigris

I do not profess to be photoshop guru, I din't really do much to the image. A slight levels adjustment (to make it darker overall) a slight curves adjustment, a little saturation and unsharp mask.

Hope you like it!

the thing about photoshop is you need to make sure your monitor brightness/contrast are at optimium levels. there are many programs avalible that can help you calibrate the monitor... It seems like the old image was just a problem with your monitor being too dark....

I voted the original as one of my top three picks that week. I particularly liked the mocochromatic nature of the colouring! The adjusted version (yours) is effective, too, but in a different way.

Thank you for your kind words. :-) I like both versions too for different reasons.

I gave the original a 10. I really enjoyed the image and saw nothing that needed to be changed. The problem with image editing tools is that it is far too easy to go overboard. I downloaded your image and tried to print it on my dye sublimation printer so I could show my friend. But, the resolution was too low to yield a good print. Too bad. She loved it too anyway with the low res and all.

Kathleenm, I liked the original and had given it a 9. Perhaps a tad more contrast, yes, okay. But the original had a nice mysterious effect. You photoshopped that away in the revised version. How about you just play with the levels and curves a little to increase the contrast. But that's all my personal taste.

Kathleen, of the two, the original and the new, I prefer the new, but agree with Swashbuckler that it's just a little too much. I think McMurma hit it on the head with his version. It's a lovely photo and I do like it with punchier colours...

How about this instead ?

I like Gordon's as well as 'New version' ... hopefully, you can see exactly what people meant when they said the image looked washed out. It's a really great photograph with just little push on the colors. Nice job, kathleen.

I actually prefer "new version" better... I like the "wet" look...
