Just receved my lensbaby from www.lensbabies.com and oh boy this is something different from my other lenses :p
It´s probably the most manual object you can use with a dslr.
Put a up my first expiriments on my other discovery of this week Flickr.com.
This photo site is the next best thing I have found for my photo fetish apart from dpc.

L.O.V.E the lensbaby.

I haven't uploaded any of my other photos, but here's some I posted a while back.

Not sure about Flickr, though. Pictures seemed to take a really long time to load?

I still haven't been able to convince myself to buy one of these yet. I did, however, order one of the Finney pinhole body caps for my 10d. I'm just struggling a little with the idea of paying $100 for the lensbaby. Who has the lead on discounts on these things? lol...

What's a lensbaby and what does it do?

Check out the site.. www.lensbabies.com
.. they have flash videos and photos that explain it.

But setzler nailed it pretty well :D

I had been considering a Holga or a similar basic camera because of the oldies rugged effect. I have never owned a decent film camera and I probabily won´t because now I can take crapy photos on my Rebel. Wohoo...

I bet that a little ingenuity could produce a filter attachment for a normal lens that would produce this effect quite nicely.

like......some KY smeared around the lens? (may substitute Vaseline for KY).

yeah, they're crappy... but they're fun!

The thing is that you can bend this lense and by that way position the "sweet spot" at any area of the photo.
The focus is adjusted by pulling the harmonica out or pushing it in.
This you can´t do with any filter I know of :p

Here's another example from my recent trip:

Yeah, it's $100 for something that's essentially a toy, but it's really fun for offbeat stuff.

If you're looking for a filter for a similar effect (although not nearly as fun), check out Melancholytron

Bod produced this shot with a Lensbaby:

... and Flickr is great - lots of social to be had there and a myriad groups for discussion on specific subjects. Joined last month.

Actually, you don't even need the lens. What a lensbaby is, is a single element lens. Basically it's a magnifying glass in front of the sensor. If you take an old lens, take the last, big element, come up with a flexible (or not) cylinder to serve as the lens body, and put that magnifying glass at the end, you'll end up with what people (myself included) are paying $100 for.

And of course the obligatory lensbaby shots:

If you own a Canon body, the cool thing is that metering still works in aperture-priority (Av) mode, even though you are using a fully manual lens. So although the display shows "00" for the aperture, it will still meter through the Lensbaby and set your shutter speed for a proper exposure. (AFAIK, that isn't the case with Nikon bodies where you have to go to full-manual mode and do your own metering and then set the shutter speed.)

I thought I had some more shots in my portfolio from when I first got my Lensbaby but it looks like I deleted some to free up space and only left this one:

you will totally love it. there's a lensbaby 2.0 out now that has a bigger aperture range.

have you seen the galleries on their site?
