People are over-sensitive. They think that just because you don't say something, it isn't true. They don't want your opinion if it doesn't coexist with their nice friendly little everyone gets along world.

"Father John Barry Gwillim, 71, of Coburg, pleaded guilty in the Victorian County Court to four counts of gross indecency and five counts of indecent assault between 1979 and 1981.

Gwillim, the parish priest at St Peter's church in suburban Keilor East between 1979 and 1999, approached a schoolboy while he was waiting for a train after a swimming lesson in 1979. The priest offered him a lift home and then stopped the car in a quiet street in Parkville and directed the boy to perform oral sex on him."

Fact.

"482 of every 100,000 African-American men are in prison for a drug crime, compared with just 36 of every 100,000 white men."

The world isn't a very fair or nice place. People don't get along.

The first 2004 homicide in NYC occured at 1am on 1/1/04. The world isn't pretty.

"Q: What are some stereotypes about homosexuals that you've found not to be true?
A: One of the embarrassing facts from social psychology is that most stereotypes are true, in the only sense that stereotypes are ever true: on average." - Michael Bailey, Northwestern University professor studying homosexuality.

Just because I say "blacks go to prison more often than whites" doesn't make it not true. If I say gays are this or that - maybe that's true, too.

We have a rant forum here - why? I can't say bad words. I can't use graphic examples unless something has been said elsewhere and not in my words. I can rant as long as my anger is expressed in carefully chosen, thought out words. Kind of the opposite of a rant.

Rant (n)
1. Violent or extravagant speech or writing.
Can't be too violent. BWS wives will get angry.

2. A speech or piece of writing that incites anger or violence.
How the heck can friggin words incite friggin anger if they can't even friggin used the gd words we f'in need to use to express our gd f'in anger? It's all f'in bs! (See how UNrant-like that was?)

Oh whatever. Go about your business. Report my post while you're at it. Have a nice day.

And yes, "that's how I really feel."

*waiting for the traditional angry rant answers*

1. "tell us how you really feel."
2. "ok......"
3. "what was THAT about?"

Do you have that disease where you have to cuss uncontrollably at odd moments? sorry.

Nope. It's always controlled cussing. It friggin p's me off that I can't f'in cuss in the f'in rant forum. I mean how gd stupid is that? RANT. Duh. See the thing is - most forms of the word idiot are NOT cusses however, so I can effectively call everything stupid, idiotic, asinine, retarded (oops) and slightly less than intelligent. I just can't call it f'in stupid.

And if I did have that disease, I'd probly have your post pulled for insinuating that there's something wrong with me!

I agree with most of the things you say. But you have to understand that humans have different values and opinions. Your freedom of speach is not limited to your values and opinion. Meaning while you have the right to say (almost) anything you want, others have the right to react with their freedom of speach and tell you what they think about the opinions and values you are expressing.
I, for one, like unpopular speach, wether I agree or not. Anybody that believes in democraty should be able to tolorate it and encouraged to give their feedback on any issues.

Matt,

If this post is in response to the PM I sent you earlier today, you are welcome to contact me off-site to discuss it (via PM or AIM).

If you really want to discuss the issue here, I will do so upon your request.

Not sure why there's a but in there. I agree - it's the expression of that opinion that I was seeking to preserve.

Terry - you were well within your bounds. It's the bounds I question, not you and not just those of this board. I have nothing untoward to say to you, here or via PM. I had the same type of thing happen in more than one place at once and that's what I'm reacting to.

I believe that's a virtual glove-slap: a challenge to a duel if you will. Rarely seen in the animal kingdom.

There's nothing to be said of any matter between CJ and I. I respect the job he has to do and how he does it. I don't respect the type of thinking that requires it. Next question?

Not at all. I have nothing against Matt and am certainly not looking for a public dispute with him or anyone else. I think he and I are on the same page in that regard. :)

'Twas in jest.

Nice to see we can all get along, however.

P.S. I love a good rant!

Sometimes bitchin' up a blue streak does wonders for one's psyche. Throw in a full-blown conniption fit every once in a while and you are well on your way to good mental health! :-D

Of course, I mean this in the most sensitive, politically correct, empathe.... Oh screw it!

Wait a minute, you said 'bitchin'...so what words are acceptable? This is about cussing (Canadians call it swearing), right?

I know I've said damn and I thought I even said bullshit...maybe I just spelled it.

Actually, I now remember for sure that I typed mf in full form after somebody typed it in short form...

It's more about how it's said and how frequently. We're not as interested in the occasional swear word as we are how they're used.

Odds are if you curse up a blue streak or are patently vulgar, your post will be removed. Likewise directing your curse words at someone is a problem.

The phrase "b****in' up a blue streak" is probably ok in most cases... calling someon a son of a b**** is not.

It's all about the balance between freedom of speach and the right to integrety. That balance has always been very hard to obtain. Well said Terry!

Indeed! Although my post was in jest, your post makes a lot of sense Terry!
