A very photogenic, but sad looking little boy. I really like these shots cos you've managed to portray that feeling.

I've been coming back to these photos all day wondering how to comment on them. I wouldn't presume to advise you on the technical aspects of the shots as you're obviously a fine photographer.

In my view, a portrait is all about making a direct connection between the subject and the viewer. I am reminded of my nightschool photography teacher ( some 30 years ago) who said " if you want to show what your subject looks like...use colour..if you want to show what it feels like...use B/W". This is not always true but I think that your shots here tend to illustrate his point.

Both of these images are very good by any standards. However, I can "feel" your presence in the colour image rather more than I want to. The b/w image is devastatingly direct and powerful. The softness, grain and composition (especially the lighting) only enhance the impact.

Well done

Hmmm...I thought almost the same thing. Both are moving but in the color one Parker is looking at the photographer and in the BW he is looking at himself.

Thank YOU for those lovely images.
I hope that this thread attracts a few more commenters as this is quality photography and deserves a little more attention in my opinion.

I really that "quote". It something to remember. When I read it, I wanted to see how the color photo looked in a monotone version, I hope you don't mind Jeremy, but I changed the photo using the Virtual Photographer Plug-in Filter. If you don't like it, I can take it down.
