After about 4 months with my less than "great" camera (Which I'm even embarrased to post the name of here.) I decided I was serious enough about this to really get down with the camera stuff and see what's what. I did tons and tons of research. I wasn't looking for an Advanced camera just something that around 4MP, and was within 350 - $450.

I end up going with the Kodak Easyshare DX6490 and figured it'd work out nicely for me. I personally will just be using it for my website (//sweet-guy.com - It's a site where me and my friends become total idiots and chat around and post pics and vidz of us.) anyways so this will probably be more than sufficiant.

If you own an Easyshare DX6490 maybe you could give a little love to a new owner and share some stories, and maybe a few pictures.

Welcome to the family!!!!!!! I just love my 6490. It's the greatest little clickity-click on the block! I've had mine since May, and I've taken well over 10,000 photos with it. I have tons in my portfolio, and you are welcome to look at some of my recent work on my smugmug account here, here, here, and here. I think you will be most pleased with your camera. I still haven't figured out all the bells and whistles, but it's fun learning!!! :o)

WoW - I love your work.

Can I ask how close you were to the bird when taking this pictures?

Hi ANdrew! Haven't I seen your name at dpreview Kodak Talk? Welcome to DPC. I own the big brother of your camera, the 7590, and just love it. Enjoy and hope to be seeing more of you here.

Thanks... I was less than 15 feet from the birds when I took those shots...the blue and gold macaws were closest, the red ones farther up in trees. The 10x optical zoom really comes in handy, though. It's one of my favorite features of the camera! :O)

Now Optical Zoom - That's obviously much better than the Digital Zoom I assume? It keeps things from getting All Pixelated correct?

Yes...the optical zoom brings the optics of the camera closer to the subject, while the digital zoom captures a portion of the image and enlarges it (losing quality in the process). Here's a good article about optical vs. digital zoom from //www.photoxels.com that helped me to understand the difference better.

Hey - Can I ask you how long your battery normally lasts?

That is the camera I used and learned with for about a year until I just bought the Digital Rebel... now I'm learning all over again!

I never ran out of battery on any shoot! The DX6490 is a great little camera that remains in my bag as my back-up!

Congrats on your new camera!

The batteries on both my Kodaks have always lasted well beyond my expectations. The 7590 is especially long lasting. It never seems to give out!

Thanks to everyone. I am going out now to play with my new camera - I'll post up some pictures when I get back if anything tickles my tummy that I want to keep.

Love my DX6490. It's my third digital Kodak (after DX3600 and DX4900 - I think I have those numbers right?). Love the 10x optical zoom (and usually I disable the digital zoom).

I'm sold on Kodak products. Got word today from www.kodak.com that an air show photo of mine will post to their website's "Picture of the Day" on Dec. 7 (commemorating Pearl Harbor Day). I had one posted Oct. 15 ("Piano Blues Legend")and was so excited I went to New York City to see it displayed on Times Square. Awesome experience!!! Both shots taken with the DX6490, although it is not necessary to use a Kodak camera.

Hi guys. Nothing too great today. It's becoming winter and I am finding it hard to notice things to shoot. Although here's a link to some shots I did like that I took though.
