I was reading and looking at the recent PHOTO magazine in which they feature the winners of their annual amateur contest, and the idea hit me: let's have a challenge called GLAMOUR MAGAZINE COVER. Glamour can be very loose and could be suited for various styles: fashion, mode, makeup, risqué, pop, artsy... And the idea of a magazine cover makes you work around a predetermined vertical format. I think it could make for an interesting challenge.

Do you want to allow type as well? (Make a whole cover mock-up -- give some of us graphic artists a headstart for a change!) I would post an example but it uses my current "stock" entry...

I think a cover mock-up (or anything else with text and design in mind) would be an excellent idea and goes hand in hand with photographic principles and the ideas of this website.

I agree, and support this idea for a challenge. However, we must accept that some people will vote for the cleverest or most outrageous or funniest text lines rather the background photograph.

Great Idea - but we could still do only the photo and follow the usual DPC rules re: filters, etc.

Right.. use the photo as a "submission possibility" for the cover. I am sure that magazines go thru hundreds to find the right shot for each month.

I disagree on that one... if you were to pull this off, it should be in the spirit of how a magazine cover is really produced. Meaning: spot edit until you turn purple! The idea of actually making it look like a magazine cover (text and all) sounds like a blast!

I'm all for it with DPC rules - if you make a cover, we don't have a Digital Photography Challenge, we have a Digital Art Challenge. It's not a bad idea, but how about we enter our PICTURES for the Challenge and post our covers in this thread?

I think this challenge won't really be creative (unless you prouve me wrong) because we will end up with all the feminine clichés and stereotypes that we always see on magazines (even for men...)What would make this challenge interesting would be that the men take pictures of men and women of women. Then we would see how we portrait beauty of someone of the same gender.
