lol ...
... at least they didn't make us take a pic of our high-end laptops! ... even though ... that would've been a nice excuse to go get one. :-P

pencils is kind of a strange challenge, I mean I am not going to want to critique 150 shots of pencils!!

Well the hope is that they will be different, artistic, humorous, etc etc.. that we wont actually have 150+ shots of pencils.. but "ooh look at that one" and "hey i should have done that" type stuff. It's supposed to have us be creative and all that jazz. ;)

It looks to me like they could come up with something a little better than a stupid pencil. I will be glad when they come up with something pertaining to nature or landscapes. Something i enjoy taking pictures of.

kdr... try looking at the past challenges. You'll see a wide range of topics, some of them technique-based, others subject-based, others concept-based. Don't be so quick to criticise. There's a forum for people to post challenge suggestions, and many of them have been used. The pencil challenge is a very fun change in my opinion, and I'm really pleased with my idea :)

I just submitted my pencil photo. It's not exactly what I had in mind but I like it just the same. If I get over my sickness of pencils before Sunday I may work on it some more and resubmit.
I believe this (pencil) challenge has been one of the more fun challenges for me, and, I personally believe we will see an incredible amount of creativity. We are NOT going to be as bored as some may think reviewing pencil photos. I do think, though, that it will be much more difficult to score pencil photos.
If I am wrong I'll admit it in a fraction of a heart beat and take all my lumps with a smile. I'm looking forward to a very interesting scoring week.

Good luck everybody!!

Creativity is definitely going to have to play a great role in scoring this challenge :)

Exactly John, I love every challenge... I have yet to say to myself "OH MAN!!! I hate this!!".

I know others have a better technique or style for certain challenges but that's the fun part, trying to match with them and open your own horizons.

There are literally dozens of sites that allow you to take and submit generic subject photos like landscape, macro, portrait, black and white, action etc.

The uniqueness of this site is that all those categories compete each week agaisnt each other to portray the topic for that week.

The real secret for Drew and Langdon is to turn this thing into the huge web phenom it can be. As long as we don't get gimmicky and keep it simple...it will continue to grow.
