Does anybody know what it means when importing photo's into PS Album and it says "Photo not imported because the colour space is not supported"?

Also how to get the photo imported?

Thanks in advance, because somebody out there will know...

Is it all of your photos or just the occasional photo? What color space was the photo shot in?

Its just the odd photo, I don't really understand what colour space is. Is it something to do with the colour palette of the photo?

Yes, a color space is the color palette of the photo. A pixel value of (255,0,0) is "red", but exactly what is "red"? That's what the color space defines. It works with monitor and printer color profiles to hopefully make colors consistent between the display and the printer. The standard color space used by most photos is "sRGB", although many photographers prefer "Adobe RGB", and there are others as well.

I didn't realize PS Album looked at or cared about color spaces. What editing software do you use? If some version of Photoshop (including Elements), you can load the photo and use either Save As or Print Preview to see what the color profile is. If it is correct and you want to preserve the colors, you will apparently need to convert to something more standard to put it in Album. Full Photoshop can do this, but not Elements. If it is bogus, you can save it without a profile by unchecking the box in the Save As screen; Album will then assume the "sRGB" profile.

I use PS CS and in this instance I was working on a number of JPG'g from the camera in PS and saved a few as photoshop files.

Then when I tried to import them all into PS Album all of them were ok except this particular one. The message said the colour space is not supported.

I think it was an image on which I'd used duo tone. Could that have something to do with it?

dr rick, can you add anything further please?

Just a little bump, I need help here, have pity....

Duotone could well have something to do with it. I don't know what it does to the color space. Can you use Photoshop to determine what color space is embedded in one of the problem photos?

How do I do that within PS?

In Elements you can load the file and do Save As; there is a checkbox for embedding the profile in the photo that shows the current color space. Or the Print Preview screen has color management options that show the current color space. Photoshop CS has a lot more powerful color space options, but I don't have that product so don't know how to use them.

I think I have it!

It is DuoTone that causes this problem. Looking under Image --> Mode in PS, I now understand that Duotone is a mode which uses its own Colour Space and it must be that colour space that is not recognised by PS Album.

Changing the mode back to RGB and therefore RGB colour space means that PS Album can recognise it and does allow it to be imported.

I think that's a fault with PS Album, maybe the new version addesses it, anybody know if that's true or not?

Thanks for your help, especially dr rick

I'm glad you found a workaround. I am personally curious just what color space Duotone mode uses.

The new version of PS Album is PS Elements 3 Organizer. I doubt it supports non-RGB color spaces. But I have no way of testing it.
