Hi Everyone,

On Dec 4th, LA/OC/Ventura DPCers (and all others who are in town) are invited to join us on a trip to the beaches of Ventura. qmdi will fill us in on the details of the exact beach location. It's just north of Malibu.

Do you want an early meet-up or afternoon meet-up with sunset & dinner? Post your thoughts here! :)

I'm all for a mid-afternoon meet so we can get some daytime shots and then slowly progress to evening/sunset shots. Then we can have a nice relaxing or quickie dinner depending on everyone's schedules.

If any other DPCers from the area want to join us in this adventure, please PM me so we can swap cell phone numbers and I can arrange a meet-up spot! :)

I'll be there! :)

Do any of you know the best way to get there from the 134 freeway? Mapquest says to take the 405 to the 10, then drive up the PCH. I think that sounds crazy! What about coming down from Agoura Hills through Malibu Canyon... is that crazy too or way out of the way or something? Any suggestions?

Hey Arie,

I agree, it would be faster for you to take Malibu canyon from the 101 freeway North. Malibu Canyon will end at PCH at Pepperdine University and you will make a left. The McDonalds will be on your left hand side about 1.5 miles.

Sounds like a possibility - I may be able to make it. But with school the way it is, I'll have to wait and see what develops before I confirm.

Because of the angle of the beach between Malibu and Ventura, it's from East to West in most places, I'm not sure you can get a sunset across the water.

During late summer in Malibu the Sun was setting behind me over the mountains.

On another trip I went to Oxnard to get a sunset and it was still not a true western view.

Here is a link to see a sunset picture I took on Sept 5th. Its not very crisp, I was using a monopod on a windy day. But you will get an idea of what the direction looked like then. The mountains to the left are Santa Barbara area. //imagehost.biz/ims/pictes/97660.jpg

Santa Monica may have been better.

So if you want an over the water sunset allow enough time to move to a western view.

I've been thinking of a return trip, the one you have planned sounds like the right time to do it.

Well, I don't know how it will look, but I hear the beach we are going to (El Matador) is a really nice beach. So, please come with us if you can and we'll make the best of the photography experience that nature allows :)

I am looking forward to meeting you and other DPCers!!!

Looking forward to it. Looks like the beach has some nice rock structures to add to the compositions.

I planning on being there.

Alright guys... I know I said I was coming, but now it looks like things are in limbo. There is a work related event which may have to take precedence. I will know for sure later this week and will post to let you know if I am coming. I certainly hope to make this one.

Yes, we are still on for 12:45pm at the McDonald's. Matador is just north of Malibu somewhere. I haven't been. I only know of it from Eric, and it sounds really scenic!

I will put your phone # in my cell phone so that I can call you when I get there. I think there's a link to the mapquest map on this thread... let me post this and I'll take a look.

:) Arie

well - i still am not sure. i just found out that one of my roommates will be celebrating his birthday on friday (as opposed to the actual tuesday that it's on) - so it depends how late we're out that night, i suppose. maybe i can get someone's contact info and just call (or try to show up early, i suppose) if i choose to come.

out of curiosity, how long do you all usually stay out on your shoots?

We've been known to stay out til midnight! haha. At least greg has!

For me, I will probably hang out til I am tired and feel like going home. I may have dinner with whoever wants to get food, then head back.

If you only want to come out for a few hours, you can meet us there when you are ready. We should be there til at least sunset if it isn't too cold. :)

Just a heads up!

It cost 4 dollars to park in the parking lot at El Matador beach.
