I used to email myself photos from the iphone. I get a jpeg and I believe it passed inspection the last time I needed validation.

but lately I've been putting my photos in Dropbox. That leaves me with a .HEIC file. Will that count as an original?

HEIC file is fine, as long as it has not been modified in any way.

As long as you're confident Dropbox doesn't tag, or alter, the image in any manner.

On a similar note, I'm shooting RAW on my iPhone with the LR app.

These are accessible in LR on my PC; I edit them there.

Now I'm curious as to the correct way to retrieve "originals" for SC verification...

I'll just have to get a top 5 photo to find out!

RAW files are a much different animal than JPEGs or HEICs. JPEGs & HEICs can have their image data edited directly, while RAW files are "digital negatives" that require interpretation to even get to the image information. Any stored copy of a RAW file should suffice. If you want to be very conservative, the ultimate source, of course, is the RAW file on the 'phone, which you would have to locate. Don't know how to go about that, since Apple does not like to show you an actual folder tree.

I did some shooting on my Iphone today that I might want to use for a challenge, but I forgot to switch the setting to shoot in RAW. Can I submit the jpg in case I need have it verified?

As long as it's the unmodified original file it should be fine. Make sure to do any editing on a copy, and try to avoid using any "import" feature when copying the original as this can often mark the file as modified.
