Hey everyone, need help from the uber-great PS whizzes here. I have to try and figure out what kind of critter is stealing into my live trap at night and stealing bait. I think it is my feral rescue cat, who has been on the lam for almost 2 weeks now. She's been trapped before so knows all about the trigger plate, and is known to use her paws to hook food out of dishes.

So, if anyone wants to try and make sense of a really crap quality jpg taken at night by a cheap-ass trailcam, I'll post links to the pics in my workshop, along with some pics of the cat in question. She's a tortie so with that motley coat, it could be her. Thanks in advance!

This is the capture taken before the critter got in.
This is the mystery critter in the front half of the crate; this is the image I'm trying to make sense of.
Hopefully that blob is this critter:

Here's pretty much the best it gets:

By the shape of the body, it sure looks like a cat. Not much else you can tell.

I do think it's her. Someone has suggested I put a solar light close by, I can position one so that it illuminates that area, where light is being cast from the overhead porch light but blocked by the door in its upright position. Thanks for giving it a go, appreciate it!

... or a motion detector light. Several kinds available. I like the ones that have the sensor built into the light bulb so you can turn any outdoor light socket into a motion detector.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually do have motion detector lights set up outside, but they're disabled, and positioned farther back so they wouldn't help much anyway. A sudden burst of bright light when she came into range would definitely send her running off. Former ferals are very, very skittish when they're outdoors and she is no exception. That's why I have the porchlight on, it offers steady illumination.

I was thinking that some extra light would help the trail camera get a better exposure?

I have just bought and installed a couple of solar-powered LED lights for that reason. hope they get enough charge to be functional tonight.

We do have wesels, but I do think that a weasel would have got itself caught in the trap. I think it's a very savvy little tortie who's already been live trapped at least 2x in the past.

Lol possibly a possum but IDK....apparently we do have them around here but they aren't very common.
