Could I have some opinions please as to which rendition "works" better for the subject.

Shot a Ratcliffe coal fired power station a few days ago.

Thanks

I like them both. But B&W gives it more an industrial look, makes a bigger statement.

The b/w one is losing a lot of detail in the shadows,I prefer the colour one between the two.Maybe a candidate for the shadow/highlight tool in photoshop?

I like the BW version best, but they are both very good.

I actually don't mind even like the loss of the detail on the bottom left on B&W. It's a bunch of trees, not very important in the picture. Besides, polution would kill them anyway ;-D

Definitely B&W for me.

The color image has some nice warm colors that I'm sure you hate to let go of, but the black and white has more impact.

both are great, the b/w is dramatic and looks cool but the color composition is beautiful too with the complementary blue/orange combination, verry well balanced. Both are verry good I say keep both.

Color. The b&w is too dark (contrasty?) at the bottom. As said, too much of the detail is lost because of that. I really like the lighting and colors in the color image.

Peronally I really like the black and white. The texture of the smoke (or steam) is really emphasized and isolated with the black and white. As for the loss of detail in the bottom, I hate treelines that have nothing to do with pictures, so the darknening of that section only makes it better IMO.

Depends on what you are trying to convey. If you are wanting to emphasize polution, or industrialization, etc then the B&W does that well... (although I think it is a little too dark).. if your emphasis is on the awesome power being generated, and the sureal beauty surrounding it then the colors of the smoke and towers contrasted against the dark blue sky and landscape convey that message much better. I prefer the color version.
