Ever submitted a photo that you just know is not going to do well, but you just can't bring yourself to not submit it?

I currently have a bet with my fiance on my latest submission. He loves it, but I think it's going to bring me the brown. Anyone else ever done this?

I almost submitted a pic I hated to the oct. free study (just to submit a pic), but then decided not to. If you think the picture sucks...and you can tell why it sucks...no need to enter it and have 400 other people tell you what you already know -- the whole point is to get better...but if you already know that it sucks, no point. Just my opinion though.

yah.. I submitted a *horrible* shot to the Music challenge because I simply had nothing else, and I felt I needed to enter music after having missed poverty, being in a one-on-one battle for best avg. score with Colda.

So now it's getting hit hard (though not as hard as it could have I guess), and I'm just kicking myself.

it all depends on what you want out of a challenge. do you want to compete to win, or to garner helpful comments, or just to have something to watch all week long?

if you really don't have much hope for the image, put it in your portfolio and ask others to take a look at it. on the other hand, a lot of times you'll find after you see all the other submissions that you really should have entered.

as i said, it just depends on what you want out of it (and, likewise, if you didn't put much into it, you'll probably get what you were expecting...).

My calendar entry has one technical flaw that many people will point out to me. However, I still think its a great photo, and hope that someone will tell me how I could have fixed that flaw. If I end up with a lousy score but an answer to my problem, I'll be happy AND I'll be able to reshoot it - perfectly that time. So see, it can be worth it to enter a "lemon" anyway.

Actually, I like the photo I submitted. I think, however, that it will get voted down because I don't think it fits the winning modus operandi for this site.

I went ahead and submitted it because I'm curious if I truly am getting a better feel of what works, and therefore does well, and what doesn't work, on this site. More important to me to learn new things, than to have a high score. Knowledge makes me better, a high score just gives me a big head. ;)

I am not a fan of my October free study image. It's not typical of me, and I put it in as a place holder on the 2nd to avoid not submitting. That would have been more painful to me. Nothing better hopped out of my camera, so I stuck with it. I actually even cleaned it up a bit in PS, but didn't ever upload the changes, so I'm sure that I would have picked up a bit of the vote, but it's my subject that's hurting me the most.

I'm not too unhappy with the current path, but I'm curious where in the 488 entries my score puts me. I guess I only have 4.5 hours left to find out. :)

yep, i've done that i fact i did it yesterday w/ my submittion to Macro w/o bugs or flowers, i like the shot my self (so its not quite the same), but i have had this sinking feeling (since submitting) that it won't do very good.

i'm just hoping that there are others w/my taste.-(when i saw it the shot i coulden't help but take it and now i wish i haden't)

I do this often, simply as a punishment for not having resolved or properly prepared for a challenge. So yes, I take my hits but rather take the hits then remain forever too cautious. Perverse nature. lol

I entered several photos just to have an entry and learn how things work. Now I enter only when I have an image that I really like.
My average score is improved considerably.

Same here, I entered some of my first challenges with photos that I knew wouldn't do very well and their scores didn't surprise me. Some times I just had to submit something to have that popular update button on my screen. Now I'm trying to put more effort into the photos that I submit and I think it is working well.
I'm not as addicted to having the update button now on my screen. I wished I had more time for the challenges last weeks, but I have been very busy lately. I just missed Implied lines by seconds and I had some ideas for the Indecision and Bizarre nature challenges that I thought were good and could work well, but I didn't have the time for it, too bad... Maybe I go ahead shooting those ideas anyway some day, at least I will try to keep them in my head.

Sometimes I feel that I have to enter because I wasted good time taking photos for a particular challenge. I'm trying not to do that any more.

I know that feeling, it happened with this in the "botany" challenge, and some more also.

I submitted something "fun" for the Music challenge. I knew it wouldn't score well. But it has just crossed over into 5.0 territory today. I'm flattered! :-)

Let's just see if it stays above 5.0 when the vote closes....

I have in OFS... and the score is a dismal one. But regardless, I adore the shot and don't give a flip about the score, because other than a little bruised ego, the shot itself will remain a great memory and technically, a good shot anyway. :o)

I completely agree. I am the prime example of what not to do. I am prone to wait for the perfect challenge and then only when I think I have a shot that could possibly do well, I think about submitting it and then of course, I back off. That's why I've only participated in 2 challenges so far. Don't, because when you do finally decide to jump in and your picture doesn't kick ass(as is the case with my miserable Free Study entry), it sucks even more. :( Don't feel discouraged from entering all the challenges that you have an on topic picture for. Brown ribbons are still ribbons. :D

Yep. For awhile it was my top scoring entry. I disliked it so much it motivated me to take better pictures to displace it from my profile page.
