No -- not the lens. At the aquarium I'm shooting through some extremely scratched glass, and I'm not sure how to deal with it.

I would love to save this photo

I can't just blur it, because it would be too obvious because of the DOF in the rest of the photo. It's way too messy to clone a good area (there isn't a good area)

How can I save this?

Thanks!

Many tools such as Photoshop and Paintshop Pro have scratch removal functions. Even the GIMP offers a similar function. Given the prevalence of the scratches and, especially given heir preponderance in th areas of greatest interest the process will be fairly lengthy. Nevertheless, it is possible. I did some work on your image and it seems to be possible, given enough patience.

Worst areas are top and upper left corner IMO. I would crop a lot of that off. Then I'd burn out the upper left corner. Reduce highlights. Use a very small, soft spot healing brush on the worst of the scratches elsewhere. Lighten shadows on creature to make eye pop more. Pop the creature.

I played with a screen shot - so a very low resolution - but something like this. Hope you don't mind.

ETA I don't know about the colors - mostly came in when I was trying to increase sharpness and detail on the creature. You can of course not do that - I fear it's much too warm now to look natural.

Thanks - I like your edit, Nikki. I was just curious if there was a way to keep the original background feel yet get rid of the scratches. They're so prolific, you can't seem to patch or spot heal, etc. And if you blur it more it doesn't match with the depth of field.
