I have started to learn 3D modeling and would like to enter photo-realistic scenes in challenges. These scenes will include my photos projected on various generated surfaces (from 3D meshes). The 3D virtual camera has the settings like a real camera and it is obviously digital. The only problem is that they do not generate EXIF but another format that includes timestamp and creator details etc, see: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/render/output/metadata.html?highlight=metadata

Would this be OK for validation?

An example of 3D render with photos (not mine):

The key question here is what is the appropriate metadata? I believe the answer probably is "the metadata of the projected original photo." This really is a question for the SC/Admin team though. Good to have discussion here as well, but please do submit a "General Query" ticket with the question.

Thanks, Fritz, I sent the message.

We have sent the following message to Margaret and I am copying it here so we're all on the same page:

If further experience and investigation suggest that this technique shouldn't be permitted, we will make sure to inform you (and the community) of that before doing any DQs based solely on this technique."
