the description for the challenge states, “Your image must be titled with the title of the book, nothing more.”

so, “title” here means what shows up BELOW the entry, correct?

we are allowed to add additional text (like author, subtitle, etc.) to the actual image, correct?

thanks

Yes, "title" is what shows below the entry.

Since this is Extended Editing, yes, text is allowed, unless the text would identify you as the photographer/artist.

i was confused as well with the challenge description ..
'your image must be titled with the title of the book, nothing more' ..
i thought 'image' referred to the actual image .. as well as the title underneath it ..
i even spoke to another person and they thought the same .. that's three ppl i know of who were confused ..
so making it a lot clearer in the challenge description would be helpful .. :)

I have modified the description as follows:

"Choose an existing book and make a cover for it. Your entry must be titled with the title of the book, nothing more."

I have also, in the Special Rule, replaced "image" with "entry".

Should be crystal clear now.

But the challenge IS under Extended Editing rules? So not only may we add text, we may create a composite or otherwise follow extended rules. Right?

I didn't see the "nothing more" part until a few days after I'd entered my image. I had the author's name there also.

Would that have been a DQ if I hadn't checked the updated wordage and changed it?

Some folks might not check after already having entered their image. They might not see that you can't have anything other than the title.

Ok. Geesh! You guys are even confusing me now and I thought this was pretty clear in that the title meant what you enter for text of your challenge entry in the Title box, and that this has NOTHING to do with the actual challenge entry image that you enter.

This is the Title area when you submit a challenge entry.

If we cannot put any text other than a title on the actual challenge entry image, I'm going to be ticked! I spent hours editing the image that I entered (text stuff / layers, etc. are not in my normal wheelhouse).

Please confirm the difference between the two as it pertains to this challenge. Thanks.

We thought we HAD clarified it.

On the constructed image you may use whatever text you feel like using, or no text at all for that matter.

The image SUBMISSION MUST be titled with the title of the book the image will become a cover for (and nothing else).

I've edited the previous post to add "MUST" and "nothing else" just in case...

Choose an existing book...so it must be a real existing book not a made up non existent book? I take it that means that besides the title the authors name should also be on the cover then.

Reading back on this thread, I understand that:

The image you enter may have text of any kind, or none at all.

The title of your entry MUST be (and ONLY be) the title of the real book that they need to be able to Google to make sure it's real.

That would be pretty typical (i.e. 99% of the time) but is not required (by the rules -- who knows about the voters) ... you could want to try something avant-garde or unusual to make your cover stand out (think of The Beatles' "White Album" for example) ... I can't wait to see how someone deals with this issue if their choice is one of the Holy Scriptures ... :-)
