First, I would like to say thank you to all of you who commented on my Cape Cod Light in the Night Shots II challenge. I'm very pleased with the response I got. (btw, it's actually the Highland Light. My bad. :-D)

I would like honest thoughts on this image. Do you feel it's too dark? I believe my screen is calibrated correctly; all of my prints come back as I see them. I can see the path in the fg. Comments and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It's dark, and it's beautiful. The road is there, fore to back. The lower window in the tower is easy to make out. The highlight exposure is gorgeous. And we've been spared undue saturation. (Smiling)

The horizon appears to tilt, just a teeny-weeny bit, to the left. The border is, well, ominous, overpowering and, to my senses, painfully ostentatious.

(Left comment also).

I don't know if mine is really calibrated well, but I can see the path. Just barely, but I can see it. Great picture. Love the way you framed this and the light.

Could the foreground be a wee bit lighter? Your call. I wouldn't mind seeing the path just a bit more but it looks great as it is.

It is beautiful. Great sky. If you can see the path, and especially, if you can see it when it is printed, then don't worry if it is dark. On my monitor the dark is pretty dark and the path is too. When I brighten my monitor I can tell that the landscape is green - which is beautiful.
I love it.

I think its great. I would have had more sky in the frame and cropped from the bottom...

i think overall you achieved a wonderful photo and looking at some of the other comments i would haveta agree in lightening the foreground if possible as the distinction of the horizon is a bit too strong in comparison to the soft moving clouds... (by the way love the effect on the clouds)
one other thing is that while the border does add alot to this photo as well, i believe its a tad on the overpowering size... by this i mean that its a bit too wide and shifts focus away from the main image...
possibly look at minimising the width of the border (not by much but make it smaller than what it is now) as i also feel this will give it more of a free flowing nature
hope these comments helped

I am not one to offer an opinion from a professional point of view. But I can give you my amateur point of view. I believe you have captured a great photograph. The composition is great but I have to say I am a bit distracted by the photo being a little dark and I do agree that the boarder should be slightly smaller [but that’s a preference]. I wanted to see if lighting the photo a little would make it more appealing to me. I copied and done a slight level and +10 bright and it come out [IMO] great. I saved a copy if you would like to see it. But then again I may not see things the way you do.
But photo as you submitted is great!

I think it is a beautiful photo Jen. I would be proud to hang a print of it on my wall. Good work!

I don't recall, but do you use a Mac? ;) Seriously, the foreground is a bit too dark when viewed on the PC proofing, but lightens up slightly when proofed with Mac RGB.

If your intent was for it to be as dark as it appears under PC proofing, I have to agree the image will benefit from cropping the foreground a bit. As it is, with the scene essentially divided between ground and sky, I find myself trying to find enough detail on the ground to balance what is easily found in the sky. Reducing the amount of ground reduces my desire to find more detail in the ground, and so doesn't pull my attention from the sky.

I like that the ground is dark, as it keeps the focus of the image on the sky (and the lighthouse invading it). Very dramatic; definitely a nice capture of a wonderful scene.

I see the path, but barely. Nice one just the same.
