I'm way overdue a brown ribbon so I guess my time has come!

I seem to be sitting on mostly 5s in challenges.

I'm beginning to think that people all have different ideas on this challenge

That's no surprise. We knew going in that it was gonna get some varying takes :-) I think that's sorta cool, myself.

I have been a dpchallenger since 2004 and my highest score has been one of 5.5. If you look at the top score ribbon awarded photos as being popular for voting, the best technical vs the best design vs the best message etc. giving and getting feedback and sharing with a tough skin is the best you can expect. For me being able to exchange with expert photographers who have the skill or passion and enjoy the medium is a great opportunity for me to explore and expand my world to be more and more creative.

It's always cool. But sometimes puzzling, as well. This is the type of challenge where I don't particularly care about scores, I'd rather have comments explaining people's criteria. Not to understand the score, but just because it IS the insight that's interesting and useful.

It's the last number that bothers me.

I want to have some input...

I am sitting on a clutch of entries, all of which are in the 4s.. So I think my time has come to re evalerate my photography I guess

Would like to give that - but I'll do it when voting is over and I can see which entry is yours.

I voted already on 100% but didn't comment on a single photograph and I have to admit that I dished out a 4 - 9 times (no 1-3 though) I think I have never given as many 4s before on a pro rata basis.
I wasn't overwhelmed by the entries - many of them looked like only half fitting snapshots - either without darkness or without color.
But I am happy to share my personal opinion with anyone who wants to hear it after rollover.

Honestly, I think the best way to judge this is to sit in a dark room. Either at night, or like me, with heat /blocking curtains drawn, so miserably dark in the middle of the day. Then you get so many nuances of the photograph.

Just a thought and nothing to do with the difference of styles for this.

Good point about darkness viewing. I shouldn't preview photo's on my cellphone either but I'm too curious. I appreciate the variety of dark and out of the box photos success or fail. I also notice from past experience some request feedback but cringe when it arrives. I could use more tact. I love new ideas and probably have a skill and talent limit. Practice and luck will surely peek my performance. We can't all be financially stable superstar photography artists. Dream on but mostly do what you love. I am reluctant to vote and comment of dpchallenges that I have entered feeling biased and not wanting to conscious or not manipulate the results. We all have our strengths and Achilles tendon's see.

Thanks JulietNN for your tipp with the dark room.
I just went through all the entries again and bumped several ones. Seems I had certain expectations and was unfair when it wasn't fulfilled.
