I don't know if it has ever been discussed but a monthly challenge could be interesting. It could improve lots of submissions especially with topics like DESPAIR which implies good efforts. It is hard to achieve such theme in a week when you work 5 days and don't live in Ethiopia!! I guess monthly challenges would get very high quality submissions.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Nathalie fellow 5700 owner. I'd also like to see the theme "Flow" or "Urban Flow" as a monthly challenge. What parallels to nature can people find in the city? What makes a city (a rather ugly thing) beautiful?

Cheers

I agree. A month long challenge would give me time to execute ideas I'd like to do instead of settling on ideas I think I can squeeze in to whatever else I need to do on the weekend. It would at least be an interesting experiment, to see how it goes...

I agree. Since I joined, I'm an addict and can't stand not to submit so I often rush to submit something even if I had a better idea but didn't time to execute it. We could see that from the Love challenge submissions... although mine is doing pretty good up to now although it was a last minute idea!

when I figure out how to use this sight, I won't attribute Natalie to my comments

Heh. A monthly challenge would just make me wait 28 days to take a pic instead of 6 probably. (I promise I am thinking those days!!) Sounds like a neat idea though.

Me too. I think we could maybe add a monthly challenge with some kind of monthly theme (holiday, etc.) theme but I would in no way want any of the monthly challenges to replace any of the weekly challenges. Ever since I became a member of this site I can't wait till Sunday night roles around so I can see my results.

Hey Wackybill you got it good! I have to wait till 6 am on Monday to see the results!

One more thought. If we have a monthly challenge, with one challenge ending each week, we will probably have more entries for each challenge, and those people who are not interested in a particular challenge will not have to wait a full week for the next challenge.

And Nathalie,
In my previous post, I started typing my comments before the end of the quote, so the signature in the body of the statement made it look like you signed my post.

This is an excellent idea, and one that will bring higher quality photos to the site.

I strongly agree that these monthly challenges should in no way replace any of the weekly challenges.

Hi All!

I didn't intend to raise a question about the weekly challenge I LOVE WEEKLY CHALLENGES!!! It shows also who can deal with short delay and still get original shots. I just meant that a EXTRA monthly challenge would be great for those who don't have much time and also for the quality we could get out of these monthly challenges.

So I second adding an EXTRA monthly Challenge!

It's kind of the flip side of the occasional Speed Challenge...but I too will probably be waiting until day 28+ to get it done!

Won't hurt to try it and see what happens.

I think it´s a brilliant idea. We will have enough time to submit good works. Great, absolutely great, nathalie!!!
I love it!

I agree this succestion!

I agree with monthly challenges. I suggest that topics are to be off studio so it willbe more challenging or a topic that best represent a holiday or and event of the month. Or it may be what best describe your country or place for the month.

One problem - do you know HOW MANY submissions there would be in a month? There are HOW many registered users of this site? Try voting for 1200 pictures. Uh no way. With the 20% rule, your votes wouldnt even count til you voted for 240 of them!

I don't mind long challenges, but how we gonna vote on all that??
02/28/2003 10:05:39 PM · #20
Well, you would have all month long to vote!-) I think monthly challenges are a good idea, but I think there ought to be something about the monthly challenges to set them apart from the weekly ones. Whether it's a new set of rules (allow more editing, etc.), or just distinctive themes (holidays, etc.), if they are the same as the weekly challenges, what is the sense of having them?
02/28/2003 10:19:13 PM · #21
How about having a panel to judge the Monthly Challenge? The theme should be more interesting and harder too.
