Hi all, I was pretty active here years ago but it's been awhile. I contributed a bunch of member interviews and a tutorial or two. I also won a couple of ribbons along the way.

Thinking about getting back into the flow but now in the age of Facebook, DPC seems quaint and "different." To me, DPC was "facebook" before there was a Facebook. What's the climate like these days? How many of the original crew from the 2004-2010 era are still around? I see some familiar names as I browse the threads.

Welcome back! A lot of the "old guard" are around, and every few days someone "lost in the wilderness" (like you) makes a re-appearance here. :-)

Check out this thread -- it might answer some of your questions.

Thanks for the link. I had lunch with Kirbic the other day and he filled me in on the changes that have recently taken hold. That's what prompted me to come back around and check the place out. Glad to hear some coding updates are coming!

Hi John! How's things? I was in Madison for work last year for a few weeks and only when I got back home did I remember that's where you are based. Hope all is well :)

Hi John,
I've been around since 2002. My username was lnede. Changed it in in 2015 to GolferDDS. You probably don't remember me. I remember your great Hummingbird shots! Welcome back.

You were here long before "my time" so I had to check you out!

You got a few words that stopped me: RACONTEUR, GASTRONOME and READER
I got as far as:
Additional fascinating biographical details can be found here.
but found a blank page!

No, this isn't facebook where you get "likes" (if this is what interests you) - but it's a good place to motivate to shoot and appreciate all kinds of photographs. You can get plenty low marks and occasional constructive comments which a good departure from FB

Soyez le bienvenu!

Welcome back, John. I see your last challenge entry was the 1000th Challenge, and you've come back just in time for the 3000th.

That's a sign of how long I've been gone - my old website host went under years ago. I have some work to do revising my profile here. Also, DPC was always the place I relied upon for advice on things like finding a host for my photos online. I have to see what people are using now. What websites are you guys using to host? I have some creeping to do.

Also, you comments about the relative value of "facebook type" feedback. It's useless! There's nothing that compares to the ruthlessness of DPC's anonymous voting. HERE is where I learned photography!

Being of the "If it ain't broke ..." faction, and indifferent to a site's decorative proclivities (sometimes excesses), I still use pBase.com -- cheap, clunky-looking, and very easy to use, especially if you mainly want to store images where you can easily link to them from elsewhere.

I'm a pBase user too but I grew tired of their complete lack of any upgrades to the site essentially since I started using them in the early 2000s. The lack of any mobile support finally caused me to stop paying. Problem is, I haven't settled anywhere else yet.
