Ooooooo A speed challenge!

Uh...that's basically the same as one we've already done...at least to me...

There's a subtle but important difference. If you look through the top shots in that challenge, you will notice that many would not fit "indecision" particularly well.

On a related note I've been meaning to inquire about -
As a non-paying member of the site, why do I receive
mailings about members-only speed challenges?

You have checked the box to receive those notifications on your Preferences page. You can turn off those notifications there by unchecking the box. Be sure to save your changes.

I dunno, maybe you're getting my email? I'm a member and I don't get any. Well, OK, I got one speed challenge notice, once, but that was an abberration in a long string of missing messages.

Interestingly though, the box says "E-mail me when there's a 24- or 48-Hour Challenge I can compete in." To me, that would mean that you should still be able to have it checked but not receive the notice for members only challenges if you're not a member.

Could an overly-aggressive spam filter be eating yours?

EDIT: Be sure you are set to be able to receive mail from update {at} dpchallenge {dot} com. Better yet, just whitelist all of dpchallenge.com if you can.

Yeah, what MK said :)

I suppose a good example of ‘indecision’ happens here a DCP sometimes.
Example: You have a choice of two photographs to enter in a challenge and you can’t make up your mind in time and the servers clock strikes midnight before you can click the submit button. You have just experienced ‘indecision’.

True enough. In reality, Open Speed challenges should never happen.

I say should never happen, because there was a data-entry error made that resulted in one Open Speed Challenge. Since it was not caught before the challenge went public, we allowed it to stand, so I guess I should say an Open Speed Challenge might happen Once in a Blue Moon (Challenge 242).

That doesn't seem to be the problem. I didn't receive an e-mail about this challenge either. I've double-checked and I do have that option selected in my preferences, I don't use any sort of spam filters on my e-mail, I've received e-mails from several different @dpchallenge.com addresses (including update@, for the weekly newsletters), and my e-mail is definitely working right now because I've both sent and received messages in the past few minutes. If you can think of any other explanation besides "the site is a meaniehead and didn't send me one", I'll be glad to investigate it.

I don't receive a majority of the email either and I've checked my spam filter. Most of the time I come here as often as I view mail so I haven't really been too upset about it.
I do wish it would work though.

A hard one.....
From the Dictionary.com
Reluctance or an inability to make up one's mind; irresolution
Want of decision; want of settled purpose, or of firmness; indetermination; wavering of mind; irresolution; vacillation; hesitation.

The term indecision . . . implies an idea very nicely different from irresolution; yet it has a tendency to produce it. --Shenstone.

Indecision . . . is the natural accomplice of violence. --Burke.
n 1: doubt concerning two or more possible alternatives or courses of action; "his indecision was only momentary but the opportunity was lost" [syn: indecisiveness, irresolution] 2: the trait of irresolution; a lack of firmness of character or purpose; "the king's incurable indecisiveness caused turmoil in his court" [syn: indecisiveness] [ant: decisiveness]

I know, but it was hard for me to find one for Choices and the one I did failed miserably, and I doubt I'll get one for this challenge. It just annoyed me that there are 4 challenges up and I can only enter 2...

I get weekly announcements but I've never received a Speed Challenge email either.

Me too! I just checked again now, still no speed challenge announcement. Hey, I guess it pays off to be on DPC every second, you know. It'll keep the number of entries down. Nice.

You're all just trying to make a liar out of me, huh? ;) The challenge notification arrived a couple of minutes ago.

In Oz we only have a few hours to take a shot, our Tuesday finishes in three hours. luckely I was out and about and just happened to fluke a shot, just making the subject, but we just have too wear that.

Huh? I may be just rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, but there's nearly 19 hours left on this speed challenge no matter where you live.

(Isn't there?)
