seems to me like that last week when ever I looked at certain things to photograph as being old they seemed too new and now that I'm looking for something new everything seems old.

The official slogan for New York is I Love New York
and would make a great photo subject...

But..

How many folks will not consider New York, New Jersey related photos "NEW"? I live near the New River which is one of the oldest rivers in the world. A great photo op but I bet not well understood for a challenge like this :-(

What's the going rate for the "Male" version? <not that I'd know anything about that>

It's do-able -- you just have to get a sign labelling the river into the shot somehow (make sure it adds to the compositon *grin*) -- like one of the kind that are attached to a bridge that crosses it or something.

lol, yes I'm having that problem as well. New things aren't as interesting though, it seems. Thought about whether there were any New in place names in the vicinity but don't believe so. If I lived in New York would make a picture of Ground Zero and submit it as New York's New Look. Double whammy on meeting the challenge and high visual/emotional impact by definition.

Thanks everyone for your ideas...just submitted a photo!

Well, seeing as I have pretty well decided on my entry, but haven't submitted (yet), I can share the list of items that I have disqualified for myself:

Globe turned to GMT. Flashlight simulating rising sun.

parent & child sitting and viewing bk "How did I get here?" Surprised look on child's face.

Plant stem w/ several buds in various degrees of newly opening.

In audio/video store, photo a sign or product stand that shows "New Release"

Strobe lights used to advertise and draw crowds like seen at movies or new car lots.

"New Look" makeup (with subject holding pic of "before")

Newly paved road

Rows of new bread at grocery store

What if the augmentation isn't on a female? (eeewwww...)

Another thought: What if I sneak into my little sister's room and half-way shave her head while she's asleep? I could then take a picture if it and name the photo "A new look". That's not really a bad idea...but I think I would have to shave entire family (including the cat), just to get the right shot...LOL!

Im looking for something old, but that had the word NEW printed on it at the time of manufacture. Maybe and old 'New Labour' poster, or an old book.

Or I might just pop into the garden and ask the newts for a pose.

I think New Age is a phenomenal idea.. i have actually thought about that one but I can't quite come up with a great way to relay that thought in a photograph...

Over the years, I have come to realize that "new" is perceived in two ways:

1. Relevant to current time. (This year's model of anything is "new" this year.)

2. Relevant to human experience (individual or collective).

The atom bomb in WWII was both of the above.
Historically, "New Age" is perceived by major changes in social, political & economic structure as well as scientific advancement. So a trip to the local museum might be useful.
