Mercy Creek is a duo composed of Jimmy Ball on percussion and Cheryl Nystrom on guitar and vocals. They support themselves with their music, and if you ever get a chance, check them out (they primarily tour the East coast). Their music has been described as "edgy, earthy, alternative folk-rock" and they put on a killer show. Cheryl's distinctive voice floats over her amplified accoustic guitars, wonderfully in sync with Jimmy's time-keeping.

I went to high school with Jimmy in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, didn't see him for nearly 15 years, then ran into him in a diner in another town in the middle of nowhere, Virginia. That was almost 5 years ago. He had chucked his IT career to follow his passion: making music.

The results have been amazing. They have gotten great reviews, and get regular play on XM Radio. Their CDs have been produced and engineered by Paul Mahern (who also has done a lot of work for John Mellancamp). Their 4th CD is due out this Christmas (hopefully), and, it's going to have a shot of mine on the inside!

I shot these a couple weeks ago when we both happened to be in town at the same time. They were all shot with existing light, with 75-300mm zoom attached to my 300D, sitting on my trusty 6.5" tripod that was perched on a bar table. The post processing was pretty much all the same: brightness/contrast, some saturization, sizing, maybe one shot of usm. If there's any grain/noise, it's because I left it.

And, yes, I am so bummed about the timing of the music challenge. I would have loved to have entered any of these? What do ya'll think--after looking at the music entries, how do you think these would have stacked up?

I really like those shots Skip.

is my favourite and I think it's a great capture. It would surely be one of my favourites if you were able to enter.
